  1. September is #DeafAwarenessMonth! Some of you may know that I'm hard of hearing, and while I don't consider myself culturally deaf, hearing access and inclusion are personally meaningful and impactful to me every day. Wishing everyone a happy DAM! nationaldeafcenter.org/resourc

  2. Wow, it is September already - where has the time gone? However, there are a few notable occasions in September, and one of them is Deaf Awareness Month. If you're interested in reading more about Deaf issues, Deaf-related topics, and related matters, I've included an article I wrote in September 2019. Beware that this article is lengthy, but it's packed with a wealth of information on Deaf-related topics.

  3. It's the last day of #DeafAwarenessMonth and my friend (and colleague in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Deaf and Hard of Hearing working group) Jon Zeolla has a wonderful, thoughtful, helpful post over here:

One of the things he said is worth emphasizing:

"Offer multiple options for accommodations like live captions and interpreters"

    Why?

I try to turn on automatic captions whenever I give a talk. It's pretty easy - Ctrl-Shift-C in Google Slides, or just "J" in Office365. But it's not infallable.

Recently I gave a talk at PyOhio. They are amazing folks who run a great event. What you see in this video is not their fault. It's merely proof that there's no one-size-fits-all accommodation.

  4. I just finished my talk at #SREDay and got a lot of wonderful feedback. But by far my favorite was:

"Thank you for turning on captioning."

    #DeafAwarenessMonth is NOW!

  5. September is #DeafAwarenessMonth so I'd like to remind any videomakers out there to caption! your! work!

Rikki Poynter has a video about how exactly you can do that, and it's a couple years old but still relevant: youtu.be/7t-1kFDPceo
