My dad died in 2021, but he's still listed on my car's paperwork. It makes me smile a bit every time I get something addressed to the both of us.

(We had joint ownership, so now I automatically have full ownership, no need to update the paperwork or go through probate.) #deaddadsclub

The American healthcare system is fucked and I wish I didn't have to interact with it. Latest thorn was trying to pick up an online order of COVID tests from the drive-thru pharmacy and, after 20 minutes in car line (stuck because there's barriers) I get told I have to go inside to pick up. I feel like crap and might be contagious. Good job, folks. I masked but still get sad dead dad† feelings mixed up with being physically too hot and now my sinuses are clear from crying.

Dreamed last night that my dad was still alive. We talked about drafting supplies.

I remember my dad taking me to Paducah, Kentucky to visit the drafting supply store. He needed something for work. I think he also got me a Pentel 0.9 mechanical pencil. It was yellow. #deaddadsclub #dream #grief

My dad died of COVID-19 in January 2021, a month before the vaccine would have been available to him. The last two people to learn this (a co-worker and a dental hygienist that is was curious why I was masking) have responded "but he had a pre-existing condition, right?" and I'm not sure how to respond to that. Yeah, he was old. Yeah, he had a heart condition. He's still my dad and he's still dead.

The co-worker even pressed me for what he really died of. Which, I've not looked at his death certificate, but I suspect not having oxygen in his lungs after my mom removed him from life support had something to do with it.

Anyways, it's a really shitty thing to say to someone about their dead dad--yeah, he might have died of COVID, but at least he had a ✨pre-existing condition✨.
