It's more likely for a sub to be turfed than not at this point. It's very Dead Internet.

Digg lays off staff and pulls app from stores
“When the Digg beta launched, we immediately noticed posts from SEO spammers noting that Digg still carried meaningful Google link authority,” the blog post about the layoffs states. “Within hours, we got a taste of what we’d only heard rumors about. The internet is now populated, in meaningful part, by sophisticated AI agents and automated accounts. We knew bots were part of the landscape, but we didn’t appreciate the scale, sophistication, or speed at which they’d find us.”
The company said it banned tens of thousands of accounts, deployed internal tooling, and worked with external vendors, but it wasn’t enough. For a site that relied on user votes to rank content, an uncontrollable bot problem meant those votes couldn’t be trusted.

A digital silence falls over the world, while the 2056 audience pays for their tickets in crypto-yuan, fully aware that the film itself was created by the very AI the hero was fighting on screen.

Quite convinced the "dead Internet theory" is real.
X is a million subtle variations of the same right-wing message, while Threads is the exact same thing but for the left.
Increasingly feels like Bluesky and Mastodon are the only places with at least some actual humans left.

There was a #39c3 talk on PTP that looked interesting, but had ai slop images and the presenter said they used chatgpt to code some of their presentation (and which they blamed when that part of the demo failed). And this morning there was a potentially neat article about hosting websites on a SPARC1, which diverged into unrelated MCP sloperations, so the whole article is suspect and not worth sharing. More disappointing evidence for the #DeadInternetTheory...

I commute every day by #bicycle and I decided to buy a new #bike.
In the past I would have gone online and read some #reviews and comparisons and made a choice. Now that is nearly impossible, because so many of the "reviews" are #AI #LLM #slop summaries of, I dunno, forum posts about a completely different bike or something.
Instead I have e-mailed a list of my requirements to my #local #bikeshop and asked them what's available. Should have done that first.

[P] The astroturfing on Reddit is getting out of hand. I'm seeing the same posts pop up in subreddits I watch, with only a few words changed, and thousands of upvotes. Reddit has really gone full Dead Internet. Prior to the rise of AI, I'd never seen anything like this. And Reddit's owners give zero shits as it's all engagement and ad views, it's economically in their best interest to ignore it despite illegality.
