This is a gentle strum, a quiet summer's day on the bank of a river. Which is absolutely fine, but it's not the Deacon Blue we were expecting. The band have grown up, matured, they're more albums than singles now.

Deacon Blue perform "Real gone kid". During their active recording career, "Real gone kid" was the Deacon Blue song you'd most hear on the wireless; as soon as they re-released "Dignity" in 1994, that took pole position.

This is an upbeat stomper, whoo-whoo-whoo with Ricky in his fashionable tweed jacket.

Yeah, there was a time when it was fashionable to look like a geography teacher. The past was strange.

Deacon Blue is coming to #SouthAfrica on 24 February. Tickets are R750 each.

Okay, that's a bit steep for a daytime festival at Emmarentia Dam. I didn't pay much more than that to go see Bon Jovi at FNB Stadium in 2013. But prices go up, so I guess I can accept it (I'm not that keen on going, though, so I won't be paying that).

But "Food and drink will be on sale, so no need to bring your own," says the advert. Which you can, of course, read as, "Please do NOT bring your own food".

And said food and drink will be overpriced, so a meal and two drinks will cost you R250, easy.

And you'll pay R100 for parking. Minimum.

Meaning you'll pay R1100 to go see Deacon Blue at Emmarentia Dam, easy.

That's just too much money.

Or is it just me?
