  2. Where ‘#DayZeroDroughts’ could happen as soon as this decade

Story by Laura Paddison, September 23, 2025

Excerpt: "Cities are particularly at risk as booming populations increase demand on water resources already under pressure from #ClimateChange and mismanagement. Low-income communities are expected to be disproportionately affected, the study found.

"Some parts of the world, including the Mediterranean, southern Africa, Asia and Australia, are projected to endure more prolonged day-zero drought events with less time between each one, limiting their ability to recover, the report found. This can have devastating effects on agriculture and ecosystems, and for some particularly badly affected areas, it throws into question 'whether people might still be able to live there long term,' Franzke said.

The findings point to the clear need to speed up the clean energy transition, he said, as well as improve water management — huge amounts are wasted through leaky pipes, for example.

"The research should also guide industry, he added, pointing to the proliferation of water-guzzling #SemiconductorManufacturing and #DataCenters in water-stressed areas such as #Texas and #Arizona."

  8. Terminando de ver #dayzero que só tem 6 episódios. Eu dormir acho que em 3 e achei tudo bem desinteressante.

  9. What does it take for a massive civilizational infrastructure to manage its catchments, #watersheds, #wetlands, & #forests as preventative solutions to #drought AND #flooding? I hope someone's asking questions like this (without threat of being suppressed, or worse, for saying so).

"Mexico City could run out of drinking #water by the end of June, an event locals call "#DayZero."

#MexicoCity has long struggled to bring water to its millions of residents, but 3 consecutive years of low rainfall & high temperatures have created a serious emergency.

The Cutzamala water system — a series of treatment plants, reservoirs, & canals that provide water to tens of millions of people — is running dry.

About 40% of Mexico City's water is lost due to leaky pipes."

  10. Because of my difficulties in recognising faces and remembering names, I'm not sure if the neighbour who asked me to buy her water (face to face), and the neighbour who messaged me to buy water is the same person 😅

And that possibility didn't occur to me till too late in the process not to make it obvious to them (her? If it's one person?) that I still don't remember her (their?) name and face after 6 years of living here.

No stress, I'll just wait to see how many people show up to collect.

Buying water for neighbours and supermarkets already running out of bottled water, feels weirdly like 2017 again.
