"He called to #Helios, reminding the chief of the stars of his love for Klymene, and prayed him to hold back his car & check the stalled horses with the heavenly bit, that he might prolong the sweet light, that he might go slow to his setting & with sparing whip increase the day to shine again."

Happy #Solstice to all who celebrate!

It's Helios' shortest work day of the year, he is small and distant:

"At the winter solstice, the sun would seem to be a little child like that which the Egyptians bring forth from a shrine on the appointed day, since the day is then at its shortest and the god is accordingly shown as a tiny infant."

For #BlackHistoryMonth, I'm introducing African deities in my daily god toots. #Anyanwu ("eye of the sun") is the sun deity or spirit of good fortune, knowledge, and wisdom in the traditional #Igbo religion. Anyanwu is a tutelary spirit that was created by the Supreme god and exists as a masculine & feminine deity. Anyanwu bestows the gift of sight: when the sun is out, things are brought to light.

For #BlackHistoryMonth, I'm introducing African deities in my daily god toots. #Olorun is the #Sun itself, one of the manifestations of the Supreme God #Olodumare in #Yoruba religion. This god exists in spiritual form only and therefore has no gender, no cult, no temples, nor should they be worshipped directly. They should be contacted through the #Orishas instead, a few of whom we have met this week. They created the universe & all living things.
