I spent the last 5 hours on eldercare and family time, but managed to get a release out the door tonight: FromThePage 24.12-pre, a pre-release version of the codebase with an upgrade to Ruby 3 and Rails 7.

Ah, and today, Roman Bleier and I also did some (editorial) work on the first two review papers of the upcoming RIDE issue 19. This issue will be the third dedicated to “Tools and Environments”.

Among others, TEI Publisher (by @Nadine and @AndreasMertgens) and Oxygen XML Frameworks (by Jennifer Bunselmeier and Sina Krottmaier) will be reviewed.

The issue will be published with these two reviews as a "rolling release" in the next days on https://ride.i-d-e.de/.

I also had a meeting today on #DayOfDH2024 together with Lou Klappenbach (@lauml) and another colleague for an upcoming development cycle ("Entwicklungsblock") for an ongoing scholarly edition project here at the @BBAW.

We talked about which new features, bug fixes and tasks the project would like to have implemented and what we (TELOTA) are able to realize.

It was an easy appointment, as Lou had already prepared everything perfectly! 😊

For edition humboldt digital (ehd, https://edition-humboldt.de), I've today at #DayOfDH2024 finished the “Nearby places” function for the index of places.

What does the function do? For a place in the index, not only the place itself is marked in a map, but also all other places from the index within a radius of 30 km.

It will be uploaded to the project's internal website tomorrow - the public will be able to use it with the new version of ehd next summer.

This post is different than my usual because it's more a series of aphorisms if anything? Have been experimenting with dictating writing lately to see how it feels differently. This was read into my phone while waiting for my son to go down for a nap in the room next door.

Came in to work early on #DayofDH2024 to get some things done before the departmental staff lunch then a trip to LA. The books on my bookshelf with googly eyes made me smile; a small act of whimsical resistance to a very serious proposal about putting books into conversation with one another.

For #DayofDH2024 I am working on the server migration that just. won't. end.

Boring work, but needs to be done.

@janhorstmann @DHdKonferenz Dieses Jahr übrigens keine Probleme mit dem #DHConvalidator, da wir das Abstract kollaborativ direkt im #FidusWriter geschrieben haben. Dort gibt es am Ende einen nahtlosen Export nach HTML, #TEI-XML, .docx -- und eben auch .DHC-Format. Hat sehr gut funktioniert und ich wäre für Fidus für alle ab #DHd2025 ;)
