Daugelis iš mūsų linkę manyti, kad karo ir taikos bei kitos žmogiškosios problemos gali būti išspręstos teisės aktais, paprasčiausia organizacija ar vadovavimu. Kadangi nenorime būti atsakingi už vidinius ir išorinius neramumus savo gyvenime, kreipiamės į valdžios institucijas, grupes ir masines akcijas. Naudodamiesi šiais išoriniais metodais, galime pasiekti laikiną taiką, bet tikrą, ilgalaikę taiką galima pasiekti tik tada, kai individas supranta save ir savo santykius su kitais, kurie sudaro visuomenę. Taika yra viduje, o ne išorėje; taika ir laimė pasaulyje gali būti tik tada, kai individas, kuris yra pasaulis, ryžtingai imasi keisti savyje esančias priežastis, kurios sukelia sumaištį, skausmą, neapykantą ir pan. Noriu giliai ir išsamiai aptarti šias priežastis ir tai, kaip jas pakeisti. Mus supantis pasaulis nuolat kinta, nuolat keičiasi; jame nuolat yra skausmo ir kančios. Ar tarp šių pokyčių ir konfliktų gali būti ilgalaikis ramybės ir laimės jausmas, nepriklausomas nuo aplinkybių? Šią ramybę ir laimę galima atrasti, išskaptuoti iš bet kokių aplinkybių, kuriose žmogus atsiduria.
