  2. Good morning tooters. A 9c morning here in Collingwood, Melbourne & I was certainly overwarm last night. It’s going to get to a sunny & warm 17c today. I doubt I’ll be needing my coat when we go out. Still this is Melbourne, so I might carry it anyway.
The trip down was uneventful, saw a rabbit racing across a paddock & then two large Roos further on. Apart from that I mostly read a book in my Kobo app. My goodness the seats on the trains are so uncomfortable for long distance, my back was quite sore when I arrived & got progressively worse as the day progressed. Instead of a quiet afternoon we decided to head to Ikea as my NZ friend loves the place & you know what it’s like there - it’s hard to walk around & not purchase something. Lunch was at a Mexican cafe & then we went checking out a couple of op shops which are quite a bit dearer than up at home. Needed to take some painkillers before I went to bed last night & it wasn’t a comfortable sleep but my back is much better this morning.
We’re heading down Frankston way & Langwarrin today to see if we can get to the sculpture park there. It’s going to be a full day out anyway.
    Have a lovely ##Friday, hope you all have a lovely sunshiny day 🌞. #Weather #TrainTrip #Melbourne #DayOut.

  6. Had a lovely day out with Miss 7 & Miss 14 granddaughters today. I have only been to Corowa a few times over the 33yrs I’ve lived on the border. So most things were new to me too. Not a big town with around 5,600 population but they also border the even smaller town of Wahgunyah.
We walked the Main Street which is actually Sanger St 😂 & we found all 3 op shops. Miss 7 loves her soft toys & chose a blue swimming turtle, miss 14 found some headphones & I found a lovely jumper. We did visit Dimmys as recommended, not exactly our cup of tea as regards merchandise, although some things were ok, but the building it is in is an old theatre & really has that smell of an old theatre. Even the old drop curtain is still there where the stage once was. I let the girls choose their cafe of choice & unsurprisingly it was the bakery, simple food done well with hot chocolate for them & coffee for me. Then they both chose a sweet treat to take to the park. All in all it was a fun day & the “I love you lots grandma” had me with an awww 🥰🥲 I love you too moment. #DayOut #SchoolHolidays #Granddaughters. #GoodDay

  9. Good morning tooters. Around 9c when I woke up this morning & it will be the same daily temp of 16c as it’s been for the last two days. Still very grey & overcast with more rain to come this afternoon. I was very glad when that storm finished late last night & I was able to have a last check of the back yard to reassure myself all was good & no water came in under the back garage door. I don’t even think the rain was as fierce nor as fast as those other rain events I’ve had. It did mean I was able to get to go to bed & sleep unstressed. It always feels worse when it’s dark.
I had a lovely few hours out in Albury yesterday with my friend, we had coffee at the Myer centre & then went for a wander, window & op shopping. I didn’t buy anything at all except except the coffee. It was just so good to be outside doing something & the rain held off until we got home. I also dropped off half a dozen books to a street library & took 2 out for myself. I love street libraries. The pictures were taken down a laneway towards the Myer complex.
I have to pack to head to Chiltern this morning but don’t plan to get there until around lunchtime. It’s just for 4 nights & I will take a couple of my frozen meals & soup with me. That way I don’t need to do much cooking.
    Wishing you all a lovely #Thursday, stay warm & dry & I do hope for some sun 🌞 for us all today 🌻. #Weather #DayOut #StreetLibrary #HouseSit #PetSit

  13. I’m a bit pooped again. I’ve been home for an hour or so & I’ve had a lovely day. So nice to be driven & admire the scenery than to be the one driving. I don’t think it’ll be a late night for me. We wandered the streets & shops of Beechworth chatting about anything & everything. I bought new earrings, tiny little enamelled loops. We had a pizza lunch at Bridge Road Brewers which included a large glass of alcoholic ginger beer which was lovely & so was the pizza. We finished off the trip at another brewery that used to be Billsons but is now called Isabellas & I got to taste a couple of things, an apple crumble whisky liqueur which was way too sweet & chilli whisky thing which was more to my liking. So I little boozy day, not that it was a lot but I think that’s why I am tired. Good fun though & something I rarely do. #DayOut #Family #Alcohol.

  15. I am fairly pooped tonight. I feel like I’ve been packing a lot more in this last week with family here in town & still doing my own usual things. Today was no different but it didn’t start the way it was meant to with the friend I had originally planned to go with cancelling, then another friend wanting to come instead.
To top it off as I was leaving to pick up the other friend, the first friend rang to say she had showered & eaten & was feeling better & would come if I still wanted to go. So I told her about the other friends offer to come instead & said the three of us could all go down & I’d pick her up if she wanted me to. She didn’t.
Not sure if she’s upset, I hope not.
Anyway despite the chaos at the start I had a lovely but very full day & I didn’t spend a lot which is always a good thing. It’s more about getting out, doing something different & enjoying myself. In one op shop I found 2 really cute little dessert bowls that reminded me of old fashioned mixing bowls. I paid $2 each for them & then realised one still had the original purchase cost of each on the base - $10 - good score 😂. Lunch was at a cafe at the back of the information place right on the side of the river. We walked over the bridge into Mulwala & had a huge walk through the town & lakeside. How’s this 👇🏼for one amazing tree. #RoadTrip #DayOut #Yarrawonga #Mulwala

  17. Good morning tooters. It is not a cold morning, nor was it a cold night & was nearly 13c when I got up & will reach 17c today. Lots of rain overnight & sounding quite heavy at times. More rain is forecast during today as well.
I’m still going to Yarrawonga today but the person who was going with me has changed. The friend who was coming rang to say she’s unwell, slept badly & didn’t feel she could cope with the drive which a shame as we were both looking for a day out & to catching up. Anyway I’m sitting here with my coffee & trying to decide what I should do with my day instead & another friend rang. I told her what had happened & she said that if I wanted to still go she’d come with me. Took me round about 10 seconds to say yes 😄. So a slight pivot but still a day out. Also means I need to get moving shortly. Should be a good day out despite the rain.
    Wishing everyone a lovely #Wednesday hope there’s sunshine 🌞 for you 🌻. #Weather #RoadTrip #DayOut #OpShopping.

🇬🇧 Like this (royal?) Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca); I will get some rest from the long day and the almost 15 kilometers I walked in the city today.

    Have a nice evening! 👋 🙂

🇬🇧 To end my day out last Tuesday, I made a stop on the way back home in Dinant, which is particularly inspiring under the sun.

  25. Today I visited Derby. Lunch was had at the PepperPot - an award winning two rosette star credited restaurant and after lunch tracks were made for the Derby Theatre to watch the matinée of Midsomer Murders. This was an adaptation of both the book and TV drama that was aired some 30 years ago.

Pictures from L to R. A statue of Queen Victoria - which was located immediately outside the restaurant, and inside of the theatre.

🇬🇧 During my excursion in Leuven last Tuesday, on the program stood a visit to the M museum where several temporary exhibitions were held, including one dedicated to the 600 years of KULeuven (University of Leuven) about the pursuit of knowledge. The other two were contemporary art and I could see once again how insensible I was to modern art...

In one of the modern art exhibitions, there were old pieces mixed with the artist's works and in particular this collection of keystones which, as their name suggests, are used to maintain an entire vault, often Gothic.

Otherwise, the part on research and knowledge through the history of the university, I could admire some examples taken from the plaster collection and a giant deer skeleton! The plaster collection contains reproductions of statues obtained by molding, this was for a very long time until the apparition of the Internet, the only way, so to speak, to have access to these ancient works.

  28. Maria Laach (1/3)

🇬🇧 It was a very nice day out in Maria Laach (DE). The large lake, apparently calm, is in fact a barely dormant volcano crater! The imposing abbey church under the sun and just before leaving under a threatening sky giving an almost unreal note to the place. There are not too many people in this time of year and this reinforces the serenity of the place.

🇬🇧 I heard today was "blue Monday"... For my part, apart from a beautiful blue sky and a rather warm atmosphere in Leuven, no trace of depression!

One perfect day, all trains and buses were perfectly on time and two beautiful exhibitions without spending an euro thanks to the Museum Pass and even a small gift received at the exhibition on the stained glass windows. The other exhibition was at the KULeuven library, which I already visited last year, and was dedicated to the 600 years of existence of a university in Leuven. There is another exhibition at the M Museum but it will be for the next cultural day out and certainly before February 22 (as it ends then) but the M is more than worth it for its permanent collection and its numerous temporary exhibitions.

Above all, Leuven is a city where pedestrians and cyclists have priority in the center, and it's just perfect! This leaves room for great terraces and there is a choice for all tastes and all budgets, I spoke about it this afternoon to my subscribers. Leuven is also a very dynamic city commercially, you can find all the shops you want! For me, it's especially "De Slegthe" where I can find some Flemish comics at a good price. 😉

Leuven is reachable by train in only 15 minutes from Brussels-North and offers a completely different atmosphere in comparison to the Belgian capital. The capital of the province Vlaams-Brabant has over time become one of my favourite towns to spend a day out.

    Have a nice evening!

  31. I’ve had quite a lovely day today. After my granddaughter arrived we headed down & got those eyelashes dealt with, then off to the indoor pool. There was an aqua aerobics class in session & a couple of ladies I know were in there doing the exercises & I had a little catch up chat before they left. Miss 8 said to me that she’d love to be able to swim like a mermaid, so I showed her how she could manage it. She is unafraid of the deep end, as happy under the water as she is just being in it. Kind of like her grandma 👵🏻😂.
We didn’t leave there until nearly lunch time & headed to an Albury mall & the food court. She chose very well, a ham & cheese croissant with a berry frappe to drink, which she couldn’t finish. I had rice paper rolls - delicious & I finished the frappe 😁. We had a look in Kmart & she was interested in a lovely book published by WIRES about Australian animals, full of informative bits & pieces & the last two pages was dark with pictures of natives that are now extinct. So I bought it for her because loves learning & reading.
We weren’t long home & I’d just given her an ice block when her Dad turned up. He’d finished work early, so he also had an ice block & after that they went off home. It was an easy day & a fun one. I’m tired though. #Granddaughter #DayOut

  32. Bit more nature, this bank holiday weekend I dropped by Maldon in Essex, and it was just glorious. I love the Essex coastline, so unique and slightly gothic 🩶
I love the muted colours of the landscape, If people were represented by scenery, this might be me 😀

  34. 02/08/2025 - Just me today. Early morning bus out to Monymusk then a fine walk over Millstone and Bennachie, two hills in Aberdeenshire, to get the bus back from Oyne. A good walk and not too busy. A pine martin crossed the track just in front of me near the start, a pretty magic moment.

  35. 15/07/2025 - Getting older but still just about making it up the hills. A nice day trip today to visit Cook's Cairn via the Black Water from Ardwell in the Cabrach, Moray. The weather was sunny but not too hot, good for walking. Wild flowers were nice, not many birds about though. Tired feet by the end.

  36. 05/07/2025 - A slow walk from the house today as I was too tired for much else. It was warm and felt muggy. The roads were quiet and the wild flowers lovely. Lots of butterflies about today which was great to see. A few snaps of some I saw on the walk. I find them hard to take as they are always so busy especially the white ones.

  37. 28/06/2025 - A sunny day in Aberdeenshire. Morning walk in the dunes and back along the beach at Balmedie then a slow stroll round Pitmedden walled garden in the afternoon. Today was hot!

  38. 21/06/2025 - Both of us were so sleepy today. We headed for the walled garden at Castle Fraser for an afternoon of sitting and watching the bees and hoverflies. Another warm day in the shire. It was a good visit.

  39. 19/06/2025 - Back home in Aberdeenshire after a few days away. Not back to work until next week so it was off to Drum castle and a sunny day spent looking at trees, flowers and bugs. Just a day taken slow as I was tired. Maybe I'll do a bit more walking over the next few days, see how I feel tomorrow. At the moment sitting and enjoying the nice weather sounds OK to me.

  40. 17/06/2025 - A sunny trip to Edinburgh botanical gardens. First time visit for me. Wow there's a lot to see. The place is big with so many trees and plants. Didn't really go looking for anything, just wandered about the whole day, trying to take as much in as my head could take. Probably the trees that caught my eye the most. A few favourites were a deodar cedar (hidden near the back), a wonderful wingnut (the bark was so good), field elm and a couple of sweet chestnuts (I love these).

  41. 16/06/2025 - A day spent walking round Perth. First a slow stroll along the streets looking at wild flowers then a wonderful visit to Branklyn gardens. In the afternoon a lovely walk along the river to Perth art gallery and finished at the Museum before catching the bus back. A really lovely day out. Perth's a nice place for a city stroll.

  42. 27/05/2025 - A sunny day at St Cyrus nature reserve. The dunes between the cliffs and the beach are a wonderful place for wild flowers, birds and bugs. We saw peregrine, osprey and kestrel flying high. Raven and fulmars on the cliffs. Lots of little birds like whitethroat, stonechat and sedge warbler in the dunes. Just a lovely day taken slow.

A few snaps of some lovely bugs we meet on our way round.

    Cinnabar moth
    7 spot ladybird larva
    Bracken sawfly

  43. 26/05/2025 - A day spent dodging the rain that never really came. Morning walk up Den of Dun near Montrose. Then a visit to one of my favourite gardens, Pitmuies Gardens near Forfar in Angus. This place is just magical. A quiet sit amongst flowers and trees, happy me today.
