We have black swans at #Dawlish, and occasionally one comes up the estuary as here, to #Exeter.
Their underneath feathers are white, and it is interesting to see them ruffle up or fly.In #statistics a black swan event is something very rare, but round here we quite often see these.

A final 4 of my #TheWinter10 which again are mainly garden escapes. Hebe (with a bee!), Mexican Fleabane, Periwinkle and a garden Cranesbill hybrid. #Dawlish #Devon #TheWinter10 #NewYearPlantHunt #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Three plants that grow on the sea cliffs at Dawlish. Sour Fig (the new name for a plant that used to have a racial slur in its name), Osteospermum and Seaside Daisy. All garden escapes. #Dawlish #Devon #TheWinter10 #NewYearPlantHunt #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

>> Fully #electrified
I quite like the GWR trainset with a #battery, and a combustion generator, and IIUIC a pantograph that is being tried out.
Overhead power past #Dawlish seems slightly daring, but providing powered sections of line at intervals seems relatively easy.
And one day the Diesel/turbine might be dispensed with. -

Sea monsters! I think of Yucca as a well-behaved pot plant, but if you're far enough south there's a garden variety as well. And in #Dawlish there are a couple which have made a break for the freedom of the waste land between the railway and the sea cliff, of which this is one. Huge things. #WildflowerHour #Devon #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

I don't normally manage #TheWinter10 for #WildflowerHour but in #Dawlish on new year's eve for the BSBI #NewYearPlantHunt I recorded 30! Plus Common Rue, which I was hoping for, did flower but a few days after the deadline. Most of the species I saw were either invasives or garden escapes. These 4 are Wall Bellflower, "Sour Fig" (no, I'm not using the usual English name), Osteospermum sp and Hebe (Veronica sp). #Devon #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Beware, this is going to be a long thread...
My standard longer #bike ride is a 30 km round trip to #Starcross, which is #village on the west coast of the #ExeEstuary on the way to #Dawlish. The ride is motor-traffic-free for a goo 80% of the distance. It's also through a lot of #countryside and it's my intention to photograph some of the #trees through all the seasons. However, this set contains a little more for your edification.
