Just moments ago, whistleblower David McBride walked out of prison after more than two years behind bars.David was granted parole this morning. He has released a statement that you can read below, including news of a treatable cancer diagnosis for which he will receive treatment immediately.

“In thanking the attorney-general for his release, McBride also revealed he was being treated for early-stage lung cancer and would need to undergo surgery.
The former military lawyer has served more than two years in jail, after being convicted in 2024 for stealing top-secret defence material and sharing it with journalists.
His aim was to expose what he believed was the "over-investigation" of soldiers in #Afghanistan.
But his decision backfired, with the ABC's The #AfghanFiles story instead revealing allegations that Australian Army soldiers were involved in illegal killings.
McBride became eligible for parole today.
He will serve a further three years of his sentence in the community under supervision and conditions.”

"While I am fit and well in most respects, I feel I should inform those who may be interested that I have been diagnosed with *treatable lung cancer*, in its earliest stages, and will presently undergo an operation to remove part of my lung, after which I will require some extended physical recovery,"
As of yet no serving or former ADF Officer in direct line of command has been charged or detained. ⚔️

#DavidMcBride ha denunciato che le forze militari australiane giustificavano l’uccisione di civili inermi in Afghanistan mettendo armi vicino alle vittime. Venivano costruite false prove fotografiche per dare l'illusione che i civili fossero combattenti legittimi. Ma in seguito si è scoperto che i “combattenti legittimi” non erano armati. Vi era l’occultamento di omicidi illegali intenzionali. David Mc Bride è adesso in carcere per aver fornito le prove.

Nel gergo delle forze speciali australiane (#SAS), indicava il primo omicidio di un giovane soldato, usato come rito per dimostrare coraggio.
Quindi è un termine gergale per un atto criminale, perché implica uccidere persone disarmate o prigionieri, cosa vietata dal diritto internazionale.
Lo ha rivelato #DavidMcBride attualmente in carcere per averlo reso pubblico.
