  1. So Far

CSNY release their first compilation/best-of album on August 19, 1974. They released this album after that monster summer stadium tour in 1974. The band didn't want to release a "greatest hits" album after just two albums, Graham Nash called it "absurd." It's sold over 6M albums. So far. #CSNY #sofar #70srock #classicrock #davidcrosby #stephenstills #grahamnash #neilyoung #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #jonimitchell

It's produced by legendary engineer Glyn Johns and his influence is all over the album. He recorded the rhythm section and guitars mostly live and that avoids the "date-stamped" sound of pop. CSN asked…

  3. Bonnie Raitt, Nick of Time, 1989 on Capitol

Although this was Bonnie Raitt's big commercial breakthrough—and maybe where I first heard her?—it was actually her tenth studio album. (Later I'd find her back catalogue which has much to recommend in it). It was also her first on Capitol, having been dropped by Warner Bros. It was produced by Don Was (future Blue Note president), with whom she'd collaborated on Stay Awake. Includes John Hiatt's "Thing Called Love" as well as the title track Raitt wrote. "Cry On My Shoulder" has David […]

It happens at The Fillmore East in New York. Or, did he? The date is often mistakenly marked as their live debut at the Fillmore East. But, those summer dates had to be postponed…

A few noteables stop by to lend a hand:  Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Nils Lofgren, Dr. John, David Crosby and Jerry Garcia. Oh, and that's the Memphis Horns putting out that big horn sound throughout the album.

  10. Crosby-Nash (ABC AA-1102, 1978).

A just alright compilation of the “best” of these two from their various solo and duo albums. Most of it sounds like rich guys doing blow on a sailboat, taking themselves very seriously. I probably picked this up after being blown away by If I Could Only Remember My Name. It’s not like that.

  11. Stills.

( b. January 3, 1945) A generational song-writer but one of the most underrated guitarists around. Neil Young calls him a genius. Shakey is right.
