When Jim Henson Productions and Sony wanted to make something along the lines of Jim Henson’s “The Dark Chrystal” or “Labyrinth” they approached graphic novelist Neil Gaiman and illustrator Dave McKean, who had previously collaborated on the graphic novel series “Black Orchid” (1988), “The Sandman” (1989-1996) and children’s book “Coraline” (2002). The result was this very artful journey through a fantasy world. Almost every scene is chock-full of imaginative designs and special effects for which about 15 young animators were hired, almost all of them just graduated from the local art school.
The songs in the soundtrack are “(They Long To Be) Close to you” (a cover of the classic written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David), sung by Josefine Cronholm, and “If I Apologise” (written by Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman) sung by Josefine Cronholm & Ashley Slater.

Weirdo movie MIRRORMASK (2005) from director Dave McKean (comic artist) and writer Neil Gaiman is currently on sale on VOD for $5. Storywise it's similar to The Wizard of Oz, Coraline, A Wrinkle In Time and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. It definitely had an arthouse theatrical run.

An interview with #DaveMcKean about #aiart Good to hear his thoughts on this messy subject. He made a book and illustrations as an experiment. He says he felt 'sick' using it knowing the way it steals from artists, including himself. Also realizing it will probably be the end of commercial illustrators.
Have not tried any AI stuff myself but can not deny being fascinated by some of work I've seen. I suppose even some of my own work has been sucked up by bots by now 😨
