Comme son nom l’indique, c’est une implémentation logicielle pour décompresser des vidéos AV2, le codec en cours de développement par l’Alliance for Open Media. Il prend donc la suite de Dav1d – qui est l’acronyme récursif de Dav1d is an AV1 decoder – pensé pour le codec #AV1.

@wyatt I've seen others interpret it as rav1d offering a $20,000 bug bounty for dav1d, the C decoder. If you find exploitable undefined behavior that the dav1d devs have to spend 5% of CPU time to prevent, you win.

dav1d 1.0. 200k LOC handwritten assembly. Don't know any other open or closed project that large. Faster than any compiler. Used by Android, Apple, Windows, Firefox, Chrome. Really really fast.
