  1. John Chrysostom, an archbishop of Constantinople, writes on Luke 14. He says anyone who would invite poor to house would be applauded, called “father”. Your only advantage is that which is stored in heaven.

Would anyone worry about a zoning problem? Does anyone know enough poor people to “fill thy table from them”?

How can you be a partaker of the grace and lovingkindness of our Lord Jesus Christ?

  2. William Adams, Archdeacon of Llandaff, writes on Romans 2:7. He says this well-doing in the verse is “mercy and compassion”. The text offers a promise life to those who persist (fruit or cause?). Adams at least says we’ll be better off (is this how to interpret that phrase?) to do good.

Do some people instead seek rewards while keeping believers full of monastic practices such that they have no time for mercy?
    Who can you help today?

  3. Samuel Laird, Lutheran pastor, was known for a “strict adherence to the Confessions.” All of Christ’s works were for relief of suffering & distress of the poor & outcast. All of his invitations were for the weary and sin burdened. Christ came to seek and save that which was lost.

Let us see this Jesus. Are some offended at a Christ relieving suffering for sake of sufferers? That he “saves” “lost” sinners?
