Normalmente en #obsidian cuando he estado haciendo el artículo me han sido mucho más útiles las bases que #dataview. Pero, a veces, tener un pequeño script de nada en dataview hace la diferencia.

i've not been very diligent in tracking my workouts at the gym, which of course any reasonable person (such as myself) will attribute due to a lack of a proper intake system in their #Obsidian vault.

given my state of #EndlessShenanigansOfAnUnemployedMind i decided to give it a try.

right now i've only got resistance training down, but i'm thinking that i could extend the system in one of 2 ways:

1. create separate templates for every “type” of exercise
2. create a monolith template that asks me questions based on which “type” of exercise i'm performing ie. treadmill, resistance training, cardio, mobility, etc.

the mobile app is binda kuggy so we'll see how this actually compares to me throwing random words into my daily fleeting note that i then organise later

in my basefile i've got a custom property that displays a summary based on the frontmatter of each note.

idk how it will scale but at least unlike having to write #Dataview code it groups everything by date.

Как я заменил таск-трекер на Obsidian + Claude Code и перестал вести доски руками

Трекеры задач превращаются в кладбище карточек, потому что это отдельное окно и отдельное усилие. Я заменил их на Obsidian + Claude Code: задачи — это markdown-файлы на диске, дашборды рендерит Obsidian, а Claude управляет всем из терминала через слэш-команды. Универсальный шаблон выложил в открытый доступ - теперь можно общаться со своим крафтовым таск-трекером, будто это Linear с MCP (только у нас дома).

The combination of #Obsidian (which I've been using for years, now), the Obsidian #Dataview plugin, the YAML frontmatter in my notes that #ClaudeCode helped me put together: give me super useful queries. Using Dataview, YAML, and doing queries within Obsidian is new to me; but that's an implementation detail. Obsidian and Claude are already in my toolbox.

These queries allow me to assemble a "dashboard" for my practice sessions (Each practice session is a dated file. I care about the ones I recently did. I care about the ones I'm planning in the future), weaknesses, and exercises to address those weaknesses.

I can bookmark the dashboard; but it's annoying to bookmark "the next session" (because that's a different file every day).

Adding the #MetaBind plugin lets me put buttons on my dashboard to actually **create** a file for an upcoming session ... that new file can hold my thoughts and plans!

And because practice sessions are now queryable, I can find, e.g., every time I practiced for more than 30 minutes; every time I used the such-and-such practice tool; etc.

I was gently positive on #Obsidian Bases as a replacement for #DataView, but I'm esp finding the action of "produce dynamic list of related notes to current note" is much smoother with Bases.

In DV:
- write .js file containing DV 'SQL' (in eg vim)
- create a new specific-to-that-query 3-4 line template/snippet
- use eg Templater hotkey to embed snippet

Bases:
- write new Base (in obsidian!)
- type ![<base name>] to embed

Cuts out the template middleman, & no editing 'external' files.

#obsidian no sé si utilizar un excel o una tabla de toda la vida de Dios. Pongo el enlace y añado la información correspondiente.
Otra opción es usar bases o #dataview y entonces en las notas pondría la información de cada "fila" y luego hago una vista que lo muestra. También quiero en un punto deteminado sacar esta información para enseñarla.

Experimenting with #Obsidian's new Bases feature vs my existing #DataView setup.

Haven't dug yet to see how much I can torture Bases into being as capable as DataView, but so far it meets my expectations: yea it gets about 80-90% of the way there (VERY EXCITING!) but I'll have to think real hard about how to tackle that missing 10-20% when it pops up.

(eg, lack of dynamic sort function will be a bit of a problem, tho TBF that's also a problem in Airtable…)

oh snap, I missed that #Obsidian's new Bases feature is GA as of a weekish ago: https://help.obsidian.md/bases

Will deffo have to give it a spin this coming long US weekend; I absolutely adore the #DataView plugin, and doubt Bases will replace it immediately, BUT:

a) it might eventually
b) at least have to see whether/how the two intersect in hilarious and/or awful ways 🙈

Ahora mismo uso una plantillita para cada uno de los días, algo muy sencillo. En el alt está lo que tiene dentro. Tengo un enlace al cuaderno de bitácora que está vació (solo recibe un montón de enlaces) y tengo una query que monté una vez con #dataview y ya me olvidé.

Suelo poner los objetivos de lo que quiero hacer ese día (lo consiga o no) y las cosas que voy avanzando o notas relevantes que he hecho ese día.

@ecomba @techlifeweb It's funny, a few months ago I came up with the term "Obsidiots" to represent people who over-use the app. I proudly think of myself as one of them - despite not overusing it *yet*. One day I'm sure I will - that day will no doubt be the same day that I sit down and truly force myself into the deep end with #Dataview.

It's funny — at first, the new #Bases in #Obsidian didn't seem all that useful to me, basically just a replacement for #Dataview. But over the past three days, I've been rewriting more and more of my Dataview queries using bases, and I'm really starting to like it.

Sometimes, figuring stuff out for myself in #ObsidianMD when using #dataview and #dataviewJS is super rewarding. Other times I just want to bonk my head against the desk repeatedly whilst chanting "I'm a numpty. I'm a numpty. I'm a numpty"

Today the numpty chant was brought on by simply trying tp sort a list of sections (each section heading is the name of one of the NPCs in my #dnd campaign planning vault) into alphabetic order.

Took me way too long to figure out and was litterally fixed by adding one word to my query.

Oh well, at least my NPC overview file is useable now.

I need a drink.

Help, people from #obsidian that know a bit of #dataview. I'm trying to make a query that finds papers (those are notes with a tag that says paper) that are from different countries. But countries are a field in the institution, a note that is linked from the paper. How can I do this kind of thing?

Pues nada, no soy capaz de encadenar cosas con #dataview de #obsidian. Lo que quiero intentar hacer es buscar los papers cuya institución sea de un país concreto. (el paper es una nota, la institución está enlazada en el paper y el país es una característica de la institución)

Bueno, esta noche con el #dataview de #obsidian he podido avanzar algo. De momento he conseguido hacer una query donde me cuenta de cuántos países diferentes son las universidades de las cuales recojo papers (ahora bien, me quedaría estar un rato actualizando notas)

Currently, I'm using `=link(this.value)`, which is working inside the note, BUT is not listed in neither "outgoing links" nor the Graph View (see image).

@nicole has a fantastic 15-minute Youtube video at https://youtu.be/vS-b_RUtL1A explaining how she organises her notes in Obsidian for findability with LATCH: Location, Alphabet, Time, Category and Hierarchy.

Cater to each of these search approaches with combinations of Obsidian's organising methods: Folders, Links, Tags and Metadata.

I've gotten a nontrivial amount of joy tweaking the setup and making it a system that works FOR me instead of a system I have to work WITH.

This week was quiet at work so I spent time going through nearly every non-daily note in my #obsidian vault. I got to know #dataview basic queries and a teeny tiny piece of #templater and installed some other new-to-me tools to make my workflows smoother.

One thing I noticed is that I had a tendency to link out a lot and fall into a trap of making pages that were basically bookmark lists. In 2023 I want to make an effort to add more of my own thoughts and connections. #pkm

The #dataview code renders a list as expected if I drop into #preview mode ... but with the advent of #LivePreview, who works in #PreviewMode?

Is it really possible that, in #Obsidian, you can only see live #dataview query results in #PreviewMode?
