The biogeographic history of cacao is choc-full of human influence 🍫🌱
A recent study examined cacao’s historical distribution by analyzing published literature, over 15,000 GBIF-mediated occurrence records and remote sensing data with land-use profiles to distinguish native from introduced ranges. 🌎
Researchers found that human activity—not wildlife dispersal—was likely the main driver of cacao's range expansion.

Digging deep into soil using metabarcoding techniques. 🧬
Research by Varsar et al., used soil #eDNA barcoding to analyze plant diversity 🌻 and community composition on a global scale.
