  1. I just heard #CBC EarlyEd discussing #DigitalSovereignty .

Plenty of options for Canadians listed at engageq.notion.site/unplug-full

Helpful for everyone interested in migrating their data and SaaS service fees away from the USA.

  2. @tod There's a second (publicaly-listed) #Canadian #Deltachat server as well: https://chtml.ca

So for those with reservations that perhaps my lone server toque.im might go down, #Deltachat allows one to specify backup servers (which they call "relays"), and should one's primary "relay" go down, the second "relay" gets automatically used:

    Settings -> Advanced -> Relays -> Add

A list of all public Deltachat "relays" is here (and those feeling a need for iron-clad assurance their service will never go down, can add as many "relays" as they like):

  3. ☁️ Sync-in, now available as a hosted cloud service with ASN Drive.

    🇫🇷 Hosted by ASN Cloud
    🔐 Your data remains yours
    🤝 Collaboration powered by Sync-in

A sovereign, open-source alternative for your files and documents.

  4. Securing File Servers Requires Effective Access Governance

Many organizations still rely on file servers for storage due to rising cloud costs, data ownership concerns, regulatory requirements, and legacy compatibility issues. Despite the cloud-dominated era, on-premises file servers remain a practical solution for abundant and inexpensive local storage.

  5. RE: mastodon.online/@mastodonmigra

This should pretty much answer anyone’s questions whether the US tech giants would capitulate to the demands of this US administration, including potentially disabling/turning off cloud services/infrastructure.

  6. RE: metroholografix.ca/@sb/1171791

Israel-aligned VC funding is a big reason I left that enshittified platform and help others ditch the big tech house of cards creating by investors forcing their investments to utilize the services of their other investments.

To use snubstack as an example, paid subs pay Stripe (paypal mafia). Nearly everything (ko-fi, gofundme, etc… processes through paypal, actually.

You CAN write on bearblog for free.

You CAN throw a Zelle QR code on it.

  7. @mpjgregoire Dear #Canada, I love you as a fellow #Canadian, but all your subscriptions, licenses and accounts with MS Entra, MS Teams, MS SQL server, MS Access, Oracle databases, MS Office 365, InTune, Azure, Github, and Active Directory Domain Controller servers aren't going anywhere. You have no migration plan for escape whatsoever, and cannot be bothered to take such an idea seriously.

You're in way too deep, cannot even dream of a way out (other than to make Milquetoast-like noises about needing to change some day), and now your led-down-the-garden-path, #OpenSource-averse, #DataSovereignty-averse IT departments will just have to suck it all up - whatever Trump feels like doing to you.

  8. There is something deeply satisfying about true data sovereignty.

No rate limits, no third-party APIs snooping on prompts, and zero cloud lock-in. Just raw self-hosted inference pulling 154 tok/s with an absurd 0.11s TTFT on local silicon.

Running Qwen with reasoning enabled, NVFP4 quantization on Blackwell, and SGLang speculative decoding. Crisp, private, and blazingly fast.

The future of AI belongs on your own hardware.

  9. Choosing the "Frankfurt region" on a US hyperscaler gets your SaaS data residency in the EU - but not data sovereignty. The provider is still a US company bound by the US CLOUD Act, which sits in direct tension with GDPR's rules on data transfers.

  11. Infinito.Nexus 13.0: A Sovereign Cloud on Clearnet or Tor

Infinito.Nexus 13.0 introduces a new choice in how organizations can operate their digital infrastructure. Until now, an Infinito.Nexus environment was primarily organized around public or private clearnet domains. Version 13.0 adds Tor onion services as a first-class deployment option. An organization can now build its application landscape on the conventional Internet, through Tor, or through a combination of both. This release includes: Tor as a first-class deployment axis Stable onion addresses generated during provisioning Tor-aware identity and Single Sign-On flows Optional parallel clearnet domains Cross-domain and cross-protocol SSO improvements Recovery tests based on real database dumps Mandatory health probes across containerized services Broader automated testing across Python, JavaScript, PHP and Ruby A consolidated and more secure CI deployment chain Together, these changes extend digital sovereignty beyond the question of who operates the servers. Infinito.Nexus 13.0 also begins addressing where services can be reached, which network infrastructure they depend on and how much an organization must disclose merely to exist online. […]

    >If you live outside of the United States,
    >do you know if your country has a plan if the US government decided to cut
    >access to Google, Microsoft, and Amazon products overnight?

I am sure, this is not the case in germany

    >What would happen to your work?

not much, i mostly use FOSS.

    >What would happen to your hospitals?

hospitals have been hacked. they go back to pen and paper.

    >What would happen to your emergency services?

police and fire fighters would patrol the cities and look for emergencys

    >What would happen to your banks?

i would need to travel 25 km to an outlet of my bank to get cash. the local office only has ATM.

    >Imagine overnight, for all those public services and private businesses,
    >no more Windows, no more AWS, no more Google and Microsoft office
    >software, no more remote files storage, no more emails, no more online
    >maps, no more videochats.'

    good.

    >What would happen?

break down of government, economy, schools, airports, postal service, media, ice cream parlors

    >Is your country prepared?

    no.

American tech platforms are unsafe for Canadians to use, period.

The NSA collects Canadians' personal data. American antisocial media platforms collect personal data of Canadians while force feeding our youth fascist propaganda and causing mental health harm. American AI harvests insane amounts of Canadians' private data and has enabled murders and suicides, robbing Canadians of their very lives.

Using american tech platforms is unsafe and unethical, period.

Europeans are ditching american platforms entirely. Canadians should be doing the same.

  14. It's that there's no money in building something that doesn't harvest data. The incentive structure of the industry is what produces surveillance masquerading as safety.

The bet I'm making is that some families would rather run their own thing than feed the machine. This is for them.

Taking family location data off the market.

  17. ...The transition also doesn't mean that every government body has been ordered to abandon Microsoft software. The directive's scope remains undisclosed. Still, the writing is on the wall: China's future government desktop will be Linux...

Surprised they didn't do it before. Will have to drill down, it expect this is a process started years ago.
