  1. #DataCenters aren't just for #AI, they will be for government mass surveillance (think #Flock), which is why local & regional #RWNJ governments & police will act unilaterally against voters to permit data centers to be built (even with HUGE water & power usage). This is absolute criminal fascism.

  4. If you see a helicopter towing this over your neighbourhood, bad news I'm afraid: you're getting a data centre.

They’re running airborne electromagnetic surveys to map groundwater in the area to determine how much water they can divert before people notice.

  6. Seven in 10 Americans oppose AI data centers nearby, per a new Gallup survey—more opposition than nuclear plants draw. Environmental concerns lead the resistance, which has already stalled $18 billion in projects. This tension between AI infrastructure needs and local opposition is reshaping where facilities get built.

  11. Remember when Microsoft made promises about #datacenters and how they wouldn't be bad for people?

Well #KevinOLeary 🇨🇦(Sharktank) is taking another route and is pushing the #Stratos project in #Utah, an #AI data center twice the size of Manhattan❗️

Not only is it threatening Utah’s power grid and the Great Salt Lake, but O’Leary is now attacking local critics like #GabiFinlayson 💚 on Fox national TV, calling them 🇨🇳 “Chinese spies” just for standing up for their 🇺🇸 state 🤯

  12. If the environmental impact of #AI was acceptable or good, the companies pushing these products would use it for PR purposes. The fact they don't strongly indicates that what we hear from communities near their #datacenters is accurate: AI is destructive to our environments at a scale embarrassing to these companies.

  13. This isn't just about rising power costs any more. It's about siphoning power and water supplies that support residential neighborhoods to feed the data monstrosities in the vicinity (fact, not theory.) The data center overlords are getting more brazen, and something is going to give.

"Local controversies suggest opposition is shifting from online frustration to public meetings, street demonstrations and policy fights."
