That's a special bar for sure - he's been there 24 years and wish him more.
Anyways, I had taken along from my hotel after dinner a bit of mezcal that I was packing for another friend, so I aliquoted him a bit of each for a taste, with notes. He said he would try it on Sat (it was Thursday night and he had to bicycle back home).

Between that and the pic that my collaborator showed from his Sunday visit, I was spurred on my otherwise impromptu trip! So what if the plum blossoms were allegedly gone - it was still a treat!#DasJP26

In Haneda now, got through security etc - not totally unscathed. I suppose international works differently - bag got flagged and I had to discard the small packs of misos I had stuffed in. 😑 I tried saying these were not liquids but young lady kept staring at me with sad eyes till I said ok please take it. Oh well not a huge loss.
Oh hey not just 7-11 there's a Soradonki here in terminal 3 in Haneda. Ok kit kats for lab and also class procured.

Mostly (⅔) empty flight, so after seat belt sign went off went over to other side of plane empty window seat.
Ha. Fuji-san was on the side I was originally on. Stewardess said come back here you can see, I leaned over one person and took a pic. Then another stewardess in front asked me to come forward to middle of plane - no seat, exit row and said you can see here and take pictures. So here you go! -

I'm getting decent at estimating suitcase weight!
Was prepared to remove a small object or so to backpack/carry on if needed but don't have to - 23 kg/50 lbs is allowance. -

Morning worked in my hotel, made a trip to meet collaborators briefly, had lunch with them at the cafeteria. One showed me a pic of Jonangu taken yesterday, & on my 18 min train ride back to Sannomiya - looked up Jonangu location (it was in my bookmarks) & saw that it is 90 mins away with a rapid express from Sannomiya. Sped to hotel, dropped computer off, picked up camera and made it to the 2:07. Was at Jonangu at 3:40. Spent an excellent 45mins there! #Kyoto #Japan #Bloomscrolling #DasJP26

(First) #Lunch today
Went for the small one - because lots of other places to eat. Was torn between going to a place family and I knew well and liked or a new place from my bookmarks that we didn't get to. Partner said go for the not gone to yet. (Sent them pics of the outside of the other places)

After the somen tour it was a packed packed amazing day - a Koji maker who showed us inside, a small soy sauce factory tour, brief tour of the soy sauce museum and walkabout in Tatsuno before we went over to Himeji and then had just a superlative dinner!

40+ mins at the hotel onsen (+ sauna) and I'm ready for bed!
Been up since 4:45 - but conference talk went well, afternoon walkabout Kurayoshi town was nice and izakaya dinner oh boy was past filling (so good so much so fast! 😭). After much sake, we hit Misty Bar again. So onsen is nice nice relaxing end to day

A very nice lunch a short walk from my conference. We had pre-ordered from the menu*, and I had picked the beef tendon stew (gyusuji nikomi) as I'd heard Tottori beef is pretty special. Perhaps not the best way to enjoy the specialness of beef, it was still was pretty good if a touch sweet. Miso soup had local clams
(Other pic is the double curry someone else ordered). Loved the pottery, serving dishes! The folk art museum is next door.

A new day, a new um overcast grey day. But that's ok, managed to go back to sleep after 3:30 wakening. Hotel has an onsen, so off to that then breakfast. Remembered yukata goes on left over right; kid2 passed on a comment to "Please tie the obi around hips not waist"
#Breakfast is decent spread - I didn't put things on my rice directly and skipped the western stuff - pasta and bread and sweets (could have used the sausages) and also the masala curry (to be had with rice)

Well it's a swank hotel and huge room they've put me up in! Not the greatest view but all the better to get my talk ready. I have an hour before I have to meet the organizers and some of the other invited speakers to go to dinner.
Uh oh! ALL the outlets in the room are for 2 pronged plugs!! Wut?
