It's not going to happen, but I would _love_ for the new edition of #DarkSun to present multiple, conflicting explanations for details of the cataclysm that formed it.
I saw this as a WoD fan who adores detailed lore, but both #TrailOfCthulhu and #VampireTheRequiem changed my relationship with "deep lore" to something more fluid where "How does this impact the table?" is the most important question. Normalize changing the lore from table to table and game to game, based on what works best.

Ich schreibe das nicht gern, aber… bin ich damit allein, dass ich die Art Direction des neuen #DarkSun mit seinem 90er Jahre „XXXtreme, bro!“-Verständnis von "Mature Readers" wirklich schrecklich finde?
Das Original war mit Gerald Broms fantastischem Artwork und seiner Herangehensweise an Fantasy bahnbrechend, was hier mit „gib mir mehr Gore, gib mir mehr Nacktheit!" versucht wird, finde ich in peinlich, sogar fast beleidigend - sie glauben, das sei “erwachsen“?
Enttäuschend.

I read toots about people being upset about the 5e take on Dark Sun. I thought we had agreed that WotC D&D is irelevant, and play other games, or a retro clone?

Interesantes las novedades de D&D anunciadas anoche:
- Dos libros de Darksun (reglas y aventuras, similares a los Reinos Olvidados del año pasado), calificación +18, para 2027.
- D&D Universes Beyond, las expansiones licenciadas de otros juegos al estilo Magic. Empezando por World of Warcraft en Noviembre y Star Wars en 2027.
- Vuelven Greyhawk, Dragonlance y Drizzt mediante colaboraciones con sus autores, pero sin especificar nada por ahora.
- Nueva campaña para Greyhawk, "Crown of the Witch Queen".
- Colaboraciones con otros publishers: Ghostfire hará otro libro para Ravenloft, Visionary una aventura para Eberron, y Kobold Press material para Reinos Olvidados.
- Y han anunciado mejoras en D&D Beyond para 2027.

@DM_Zeppelin WotC is brining back Dark Sun for 5e. Here's a quote from the Polygon article about that I was reacting to:
"A short teaser trailer revealed during Gen Con begins with what could only be described as a Mortal Kombat fatality. The abundance of gore, eviscerations, and ultra-violence make it clear that this is a product for adults — if the mature content warning message wasn't enough."

Pursuant to my earlier post about #Ravenloft
Ravenloft is cool. But I want #DarkSun back, dammit. Make it clear slavery is evil and something to be fought. Remove the racial essentialism ick about force-bred slave muls and thieving elves and cannibal halflings. Reset the setting and screw the Prism Pentad. But give me back my Athas! Dragon Kings and psionic wildlife that wants to eat you! Bone and obsidian weapons! Armor? What's that? Deadly magic! Incredible secrets in the wasteland!

happy to report that after being missing in plain sight for 30 years, i have found the Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands beta client :)
if you're unfamiliar with DSO: it was a very early 2D MMORPG built on top of the AD&D isometric engine games like Dark Sun 1 & 2, Al-Qadim, etc. it went into beta around the same time as UO and Furcadia, and was super popular despite being riddled with bugs and rampant cheating from people hacking the client with hex editors.
i have a bunch of work to do to verify the file integrity (looks like disk 2 has a crc error) and try to fix what i can, but a step in the right direction 😎
update: yep, got it all extracted and it appears to be the DSO beta client from the spring of 96.
