  2. Films that made me
N°3 BLADE RUNNER by Ridley Scott
or the birth of Dark Sci-Fi.
A film ahead of its time, from home automation to transhumanism. It's a film that questions our times more than ever: the human being, from its definitions to its limits. A metaphysical question that very precisely takes the form of a sceptical interrogation. What makes us human?

  3. The Beach of Ebon is a legendary shore that some individuals have claimed to visit. Access to this beach is reportedly unpredictable; some allege to have stumbled upon it after dozing off on a typical beach, awakening on an unfamiliar stretch of black sand, while others recount diving into the ocean and surfacing to encounter a darkened coast. There are also tales of sailors who have chanced upon it amid their voyages. The beach is characterized by its ebony sands and towering gothic sand castles, said to house enigmatic yet indifferent beings. Descriptions include surreal vistas beyond the beach and otherworldly creatures luxuriating under a dark sun. Nevertheless, these accounts remain unverified, casting the Beach of Ebon as a fantastical legend of a twilight realm.

  4. The Library of Unwritten Books, an Obscuruum uncovered after the Darkness of 1999, houses a vast collection of books detailing histories that never transpired. Intriguingly, these books contain genuine photos. Even more perplexing, some artifacts referenced in the books have been found, presenting a paradox. Scientists remain baffled by these contradictions.

  5. The Other-Sided are interdimensional beings dwelling at the crossroads of the Great Below and our known reality. Their distinguishing characteristic is their summoning through mirrors, which serve as gateways. These mirrors allow humans to glimpse or even exchange places with their Other-Sided, darker selves. When such a switch transpires, the result is a grotesque entity from sunless depths. Notably, the being's presence in our world depends on its continuous reflection in the mirror. These creatures sometimes dwell in houses made of mirrors so they might maintain their presence.

  6. The Coffin of Iver's Green, an Obscurum, was unearthed in the quaint hamlet of Suttercraft. This town harbors countless black coffins beneath its earth, yet the Coffin of Iver's Green is the most largest to rest in its accursed ground. Utilizing ultrasonic technology, scholars have fetermined that the Coffin's dimensions span the entire breadth and length of Suttercraft. The contents of the Coffin, though, remain unknown. However, many citizens claim to have horrible dreams of the thing in the colossal casket, causing them unparalleled dread.

  7. While the Scream Eaters present a frightening visage, they are not combatants by nature. As with many entities that traverse the shadowy realms, they encounter numerous adversaries, including other walks of darkness. Consequently, Scream Eaters are commonly safeguarded by "Inflictors"—a warrior caste within their own ranks skilled in martial tactics. These guardians defend the enclaves of the Scream Eaters and are unleashed against any who threaten their kin. Inflictors harness pain as a weapon, both consuming and dispensing it through various methods.

  8. Rumors persist that the government, or mysterious groups influencing it, have intercepted odd signals from the defunct satellites still circling Earth. After the Great Darkness, these satellites became unmanageable relics. Yet, there are whispers of eerie images they sporadically transmit—unnerving visuals of colossal entities hovering in orbit. While concrete information is scarce, a few accounts suggest these figures are of enormous scale, overshadowing the planet. Nonetheless, such reports are generally dismissed as post-noctum urban myths or legends.

  9. The Lord of Lonely Places is a deity within the "March of Silence" pantheon, reigning over forsaken areas and realms of profound solitude. This entity is depicted as a humanoid husk shrouded in dust or tattered cloths, embodying the essence of neglect. Witnesses have reported sightings and eerie vocal encounters with this being in regions where towns and cities lie long-deserted. Some even profess to have discovered its progeny in empty dwellings—dust-laden, cobwebbed cocoons harboring bizarre children.

  10. "The Dead Point" is a mysterious area located in a remote mountain region. Oddly, no animals or insects inhabit this area, as they inexplicably cannot live there. Humans, too, can only endure for a maximum of 13 days. Some wither gradually as if afflicted by an illness, while others perish suddenly on the 13th day. At the heart of this zone lies a vast, untouched grave encircled by lifeless vegetation and flowers. The identity of the person buried there remains unknown.

  11. The Grey Clown is believed to be an embodiment or avatar of the Unbegotten of Despair. Many groups have embraced his image as a symbol of life after Darkness, representing an existence empty of joy and happiness. He is often portrayed as a clown in muted attire, clutching a bundle of grey balloons. While there are whispers of individuals who drain others' emotions, leaving them desolate and cold, being followers or devotees of this somber deity, no evidence has confirmed these reports.

  13. The "Drowned House" legend has circulated in various parts of the world. As the myth goes, a vast, run-down house sporadically emerges from the ocean's depths, floating on the water like drifting flotsam. It eventually washes up on a shoreline, radiating a brilliant green hue while emanating the haunting sounds of a fierce , but melodic, storm from its openings. Some say they've witnessed individuals enter, never to emerge again. In time, the tide reclaims the house, either dragging it to the ocean floor or allowing it to wander endlessly across the tempestuous sea.

  14. After the harrowing events of 1999, countless children were left orphaned, leading to a surge in the demand for orphanages and child care centers. Many of these children, devastated by the loss of their parents, frequently displayed bouts of crying and disturbed sleep. In an attempt to calm them, some overwhelmed caretakers narrated the tale of the "Cherub of Tears"—a goblin-like figure who was said to prey on weeping children, consuming their tears by attaching her mouth over their eyes and drinking all their tears, rendering them blind. This tale was initially seen as a mere nursery bogey to encourage good behavior. However, unsettling accounts of children found blind with peculiar marks around their eyes started to surface, lending a sinister aura to the myth. Today, the legend of the Cherub of Tears lingers, warning children about the consequences of excessive crying and the eerie possibility of the creature coming to visit them.

  15. Werewood, located in Southern Vermont, is notoriously known as one of the "quarantined towns" – areas sealed off by the government for undisclosed reasons. While it appears as a typical suburban town on any given day, legend has it that under a full moon, Werewood physically morphs into a dark, gothic city. Not only does its architecture transform, but every living being, from humans to animals, undergo beastial and bizzarre changes . Neighboring towns have reported seeing these eerie entities prowling their streets during full moon nights. Brave souls who have ventured into Werewood during these times swear they've witnessed the town itself contorting, its buildings shifting and groaning as if they themselves were immense transforming monsters.

  16. Before the Great Darkness, legends spoke of haunted roads where ghostly apparitions were seen crossing at night. However, post-1999, these stories multiplied. A prominent tale centers on a ragged figure named "Gemma," who haunts Illborough Road near the post-noctum town of Eden Falls, England. She is rumored to wander the road at night, seemingly adrift from the world. Those who claim to have seen her believe they are doomed to relive her grisly death in their dreams. Since her end came during the Great Darkness, they can't fully remember the nightmare but sense its deep and horrifying nature.

  17. In a world veiled in post-noctum mysteries, tales of eerie cities and forsaken towns abound. Among them is the urban legend of the Lost Town of Quietville. Travelers, en route to their destinations, often find themselves on winding backroads that lead to this peculiar hamlet. Eyewitnesses recount homes adorned with bizarre symbols, and behind every window, there's a figure with a grotesque hand over their mouth. As if entranced, they continuously sketch these uncanny symbols onto fogged windows, never pausing. Those bold enough to attempt entry assert that the houses lack doors and the windows are unbreakable. Within the town, voices are inexplicably subdued, turning any spoken words into mere whispers. When travelers finally depart from Quietville, they can never locate it again. Some believe that discovering Quietville is a curse; upon death, they will become another silent inhabitant of the town.

  18. The Spirit Photographer is a mysterious figure rumored to wander the globe, snapping photos of unsuspecting individuals. Allegedly, the moment his camera flashes, the person—or, in some instances, people—he photographs vanish, leaving only their shadows behind. Witnesses to this chilling phenomenon claim they can hear screams originating from his camera as he hastily departs the scene. It's widely speculated that he somehow ensnares the souls of his subjects, transporting them back to his shadowy darkroom for purposes that remain unknown.

  19. The Dark Hats constitute a substantial community residing in Nighthead City. The term "Dark Hat" is derogatory, coined by outsiders in reference to the large black stove top hats they adorn. There's scant information about this enigmatic group, but it is known that they practice a unique religion venerating the Great Darkness and promote the widespread social movement of nocturnalism. For years, speculation has swirled suggesting that the Dark Hats may not be entirely human, while others theorize they're allergic to light. Those more informed, such as the Dark Scholars, understand that they are devotees of the unbegotten Sathoniss and the Endless Dark.

  20. One of the more intriguing urban legends emerging from the Great Darkness is that of Gehenna's Bus. In major cities with public transportation, tales circulate of an odd bus that neither belongs to the city nor follows its scheduled routes. Legend has it that those who inadvertently step onto this bus find themselves journeying to mysterious, hidden locales within the city, beyond the view of the ordinary observer. Some describe sharing their ride with eerie, cloaked figures, while others recount stops at implausible destinations, from alleyways opening onto nightmarish scenes, to houses and mansions that shouldn't exist, and entire streets filled with beings of indeterminate origin. Although no tangible evidence of this bus exists, those who profess to have journeyed on it consistently share similar accounts and often show signs of profound psychological distress.

  21. The Arithym were the tainted Mythra who survived the Tanin Fall, also known as the First Darkness. Much about these beings remains shrouded in mystery, but they were notorious for wearing demonic masks that concealed their horrifying faces, visages so dreadful that merely looking upon them induced madness. The Arithym, now believed to be extinct, frequently used serpent lines to conjure dark energies and spawn malicious creatures and beasts. Sometimes, they would employ dark technologies to harness energies from various bolgias, embodying their power. Little is known about the Arithym's demise, but the shadow of their existence lingers.

  22. The town of Long Sparrow stands as a glaring illustration of the rich exploiting the poor. What sets Long Sparrow apart is its independence from conventional utilities like gas and electricity, as well as the absence of funds allocated for infrastructure such as the refurbishment of decrepit buildings or road repairs. This is attributed to its utilization of a mysterious device known as the "Burnt Offerings Generator," a machine that metamorphoses souls into energy, which in turn powers the town. Governed by the affluent, the impoverished are presented with a grim ultimatum - they can reside within the village, enjoying all its amenities and benefits, but upon death, their souls must fuel the machine. Alternatively, they can opt to spend their life in the dog town and sod cities. Should they consent, they undergo a ritual ensuring that their soul will indeed nourish the machine upon their demise. The wealthy, on the other hand, are exempted from such a fate. Rumors circulate that they partake in a clandestine ceremony that permits them to siphon some of the soul energy for personal use, thereby extending their lifespan.

  23. The Mad Bagger is among the more peculiar exopaths currently at large. Through the testimonies of the few who have managed to escape him, and in the letters he's left behind, he is portrayed as the final hope for a dying universe. His modus operandi involves capturing his victims and placing them into a sizable burlap sack he perpetually carries. However, it is his claim about what the bag contains that proves most unsettling.

The killer asserts that the bag is home to a dark universe teetering on the brink of extinction, or, in his words, a "bolgia." He nourishes this dying universe with people, and in exchange, it endows him with strange capabilities. The Mad Bagger has indeed demonstrated bizarre feats. For instance, it is documented that between the hours of 2 and 3 AM, he can infiltrate any structure - from common households to high-tech security mansions, even prisons. Some victims have reported swarms of flies emerging from his bag, while another claimed to have heard unnervingly pitched voices singing from its abyssal depths.

However, some scholars do not consider him an exopath at all, but instead believe he might be the sentient manifestation of a dying universe striving to sustain itself. Regardless of his exact nature, the Mad Bagger remains notoriously elusive and possesses abilities that remain largely unexplained.

  24. The Thorn and Bramble schools were established as covert endeavors by occult organizations, such as the Brimstone Society, aiming to infiltrate affluent and influential families in order to manipulate their offspring. These institutions masqueraded as nanny and tutoring businesses, employing men and women who were actually practitioners of dark arts and members of secret cabals. Their intention was to indoctrinate the children into their clandestine groups by taking them into the woods and teaching them secret occult practices, including covert rituals and forging demonic alliances. The ultimate goal was to ensure that as the children grew older and inherited their parents' wealth, they would advance the hidden agendas of these secret cabals and amass greater political power.

During the 1870s and 1880s, numerous suspicious deaths occurred within well-to-do families, and the offspring of these families redirected funds to dubious organizations. It wasn't until 1895, following the suspicious demise of Avery and Diane Fitzgerald, that authorities initiated an investigation into these educational agencies. Eventually, in 1896, the Sills Company underwent scrutiny and was subsequently indicted for murder and an array of other charges. The members of this organization faced execution the following year.

In an entirely distinct context, the present-day Post Noctum world has become fertile ground for the resurgence of the Thorn and Bramble Schools. Initial evidence points towards the Brimstone Society, now operating under a different name—the Osculuum—as the orchestrators, although the involvement of other cabals cannot be dismissed. Over time, notable figures have met their demise under suspicious circumstances, leaving their descendants to inherit vast wealth and lend support to the Nocturnalist lobby or make extravagant donations to Ravelynn University—a sanctuary for clandestine societies.
