Fresh new test prints of a scene from our morning walk, just before the incoming thunderstorm cut it short...

(The difference here is 10 vs 12 seconds of exposure. Gonna do a proper 10x8" silver gelatin print tonight)

New 10x8" silver gelatin print. This one took a lot of refining, back and forth and test strips to achieve the right balance between brightness, contrast (esp. in the brighter parts of the clouds) and smooth mid-tone transitions. So even though this is a contact print from a digital negative, this was the first time in ages (i.e. decades) that I used some physical dodging to soften the horizon and emphasize the haze in the distance a tiny bit more...

Two small new prints from this afternoon, this time not Kallitype but contact printing on silver chloride FB paper, developed with Adox MCC. The increase in depth and detail is just wonderful and the feel of the final results an instant throwback to my early darkroom adventures ~40 years ago... 😍

The pictures are of two of my favorite places in recent years. Larger prints will be available for purchase in September.

An example of Trump's war and its volatile impact on photography/darkroom processing: Silver nitrate unavailable (for 2+ months already) at my usual suppliers and only available with 30%+ price hikes (compared to mid January) at other places, even though the price of silver itself has halved since beginning of the year... Thanks very much!

Making Of A Kallitype (Part 1)

I recorded and edited a short 8-10x timelapse recording of the first stages of my Kallitype development process. Starting with mixing the photo emulsion, brush coating the paper, contact printing (UV exposure), heating developer and then showing the first two stages of actual development & clearing. Final result shown at the end, a 15x11" framed print (also posted here recently)...

(Please let me know if you'd like to see more like this... Personally, I find it quite ASMR-capable, even at this high speed, but even more so at real time. The whole process is quite therapeutic in these times!)

Some of you might know that image of Crodon di San Candido already (posted it a few times in the past), but last night I finally made a 15x11 inch Kallitype print of it (on Hahnemühle Platinum Rag, 100% cotton, 300gsm paper). Available as limited edition soon.

Since these prints are handmade (each taking over an hour to develop & process), the tone of each individual print always slightly varies. Therefore, I will be offering an option to indicate your preference for warmer or cooler tones. For example, if you choose "warm" for an order, I would then select the "warmest" (neutral/brownish) print of the edition still available... first come basis...
