Invisible Kingdom: Volume 1 – Walking The Path | Comic Review

I was perusing the comic book section at my local library, and I came across a book that I hadn’t read before. It was from G. Willow Wilson, so I knew that I had to check it out. I can say that I really dug Invisible Kingdom: Volume 1 – Walking The Path.

The story follows two women making their way in a far away galaxy. The first is a religious devotee at the beginning of her lifetime commitment. The second is a freighter pilot trying to build a life without ruffling too many feathers. The two will cross paths when they simultaneously discover a massive conspiracy between the largest religion and the corporation.

Interweaving the religion and the corporation in explicitly supressing people is a great storytelling trope. In Star Wars, it’s the Sith under Darth Sidious using the hammer of politics to bend the corporations to his will. I’ll need to continue on in the series to learn how this pairing came to this agreement, but I can’t wait to get there.

The art from Christian Ward in this book is fantastic. The character design is brilliant, and the colors used draw you into a world that feels lived-in. Everything from the planets, the ships, the characters feels tangible.

I’m into this, so I will keep reading. The second and third volumes are at my library, so I’ll be checking them out at some point.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Pathfinders #4 | Comic Review

I’ve been all in on George Mann’s Star Wars comics for quite some time. He continues to knock it out of the park with Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Pathfinders # 4. The story continues to build in a great way

The adventure continues for Jedi Master Temesh and his Padawan Anula as they investigate the death of Master Atticus Cale. In the previous book, we had a sound that could kill, and they’ve tracked it down to a remote outpost. Of course, chaos ensues. Beautiful, droid chaos.

Something awful has happened at this listening post turning it’s inhabitants paranoid of everything. Can the Jedi get to the bottom of this mystery without finding themselves dead first?

George Mann enjoys bringing in horror elements into Star Wars, and he  does it in this one with the human-droid body modifications. Caio Filipe brings it as always with the artwork while Michael Atiyeh’s colors crush it.

There are two more books in this series, and I’m really digging it so far. Mann, Filipe, and Atiyeh do good work.

I am sad that Dark Horse is winding down their Star Wars publishing as the “all ages” rights have gone to Mad Cave Studios and Papercutz. Here’s hoping they go out with a bang.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Pathfinders #3 | Comic Review

Dark Horse has a fantastic story on their hands with Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Pathfinders # 3. These are the kinds of stories that I think will continue to flourish in the “Phase More” aspect of the The High Republic.

This was a great book following Jedi Master Temesh, Padawan Anula, and Pol the Pathfinder. They are continuing their investigation into the murder of Master Atticus Cale, and after answering a distress call, they stumble upon another murder mystery.

The book is brilliant and continues to impress every release. George Mann and Caio Filipe are a great team.

Now, the bummer is that we have to wait until nearly the end of August for the next book in the series to come out. They sure are stretching this release schedule for all they can.

This book is going to be fantastic once it’s collected.
