They went through a little (okay, long) redesign phase, but I think I quite like this version :}

Darakay are one of my many alien species and the 2nd nation of the Araz, an intergalactic federation in my sci-fi world.

Here is an explorative sketch of my [#Darakay] species. Lately, I've been trying to re-think their design a bit. I want sharper angles to match their bold, rough, and dangerous nature.

They look different in my head. Less - cute 😅

But I tried clothes again. Like cloth-clothes, not the bio-armor stuff the [Zhor Khat] are wearing.

Oh it's just bec I quite often avoid drawing clothes, bec I'm not good at it, bec I avoid them - this is a never ending story 😅

For this specific species (the #Darakay) it's actually very normal to wear clothes. Most common are layers of different pieces and/or thicker pieces for protection. I should learn how to draw this..

Then there are others like the #TarNex who don't wear anything at all. And the #ZhorKhat who wear bio-armor.

...in the meantime, the [#ZhorKhat] weren't the only species who suffered from the attacks of the [#ZarkuRa]. the [#Darakay] were affected too.

so, this was the perfect opportunity for the Zhor Khat to offer a piece treaty to the Darakay, on the promise to eliminate their common enemy. they asked them to join the Zhor Khat and give them a say in their politics in exchange for protection..

if there is a god-like species in my world, it must be the [#Srella] and even those are gone by now. it's the oldest of all my creations, the "ancient ones", whose time had already come to an end when the [#ZhorKhat] made contact with the [#Darakay]. and all that was left of them, was ghost-like manifestations woven into their machines, who spoke of a long gone world.

yes, [#ZhorKhat] are indeed capable of cooperation, but their first one was.. difficult. there was a third species involved and a terrible war. the alliance with the [#Darakay] was their last resort. and the beginning of something bigger. they called it [Nea n‘Araz te Rakk], "The End of War", in short: [Araz]. it's the federation of species. first they were 2, now they are 9, in the present of my world :)

[#Shendran] aren't animals, but they aren't as intelligent as the [#Darakay] either. but they are part of the Darakay's society and they have their own (very simplified) speech. on top of that, they are loyal to their guild and masters. AND they can perform small tasks if taught correctly..

now, guess when the [#ZhorKhat] first came up with the idea of building [Hybrids]. it was certainly no case of coincidence.

what inspired the creation of [Hybrids]?

a very long time ago, the [#ZhorKhat] started their first cooperation with another species, the [#Darakay]. it wasn't a true cooperation, with two equal parts, but let's leave out those details..

anyway, the Darakay live with a semi-intelligent species, the [#Shendran], a quadrupedal creature that has an extra set of limbs akin to hands..

I never talked about [#Darakay] here, did I? :)
they are one of my oldest alien species (in terms of invention time) and I drew them a lot back then. what a few of you might remember is the [Shendran], an intelligent pet-like species that lives with them. both are part of strictly hierarchical guilds - their families so to say.

this one is a digital #sketch, in case you're wondering (including some textures).
