Dara Khosrowshahi, dyrektor generalny Ubera, przyznał, że Chiny bezapelacyjnie dominują na globalnym rynku pojazdów elektrycznych. Podczas wystąpienia na konferencji Code Conference stwierdził, że chińscy producenci wyprzedzają resztę świata pod względem szybkości, jakości i, co najważniejsze, przystępności cenowej swoich aut.
Khosrowshahi podkreślił, że jest pod ogromnym wrażeniem tempa, w jakim chińskie firmy motoryzacyjne potrafią przejść od projektu do masowej produkcji. Obalił przy tym przestarzałe stereotypy, chwaląc nie tylko jakość wykonania, ale także zaawansowane oprogramowanie i systemy multimedialne w chińskich pojazdach. „Ich produkty są po prostu naprawdę dobre” – stwierdził szef Ubera.
Największą przewagą, na którą zwrócił uwagę, jest jednak cena. Khosrowshahi zaznaczył, że podczas gdy w USA i Europie wciąż brakuje tanich i dobrych aut elektrycznych, w Chinach bez problemu można kupić wysokiej jakości modele w cenie 10-12 tysięcy dolarów. To właśnie ta przepaść cenowa sprawia, że chińskie marki, takie jak BYD, stają się globalną potęgą.
