  1. Today is Daphne du Maurier’s birthday!

Few #writers could create an atmosphere like Daphne du Maurier. Her #stories begin elegantly, then something shifts. A beautiful house can become a prison, love can turn into possession, and silence can be more frightening than a scream. Suddenly you are #reading faster than you planned.

Have you read any of her #novels?

  6. In Chapter 11 of Daphne du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel, and oh, oh Mr. Philip Ashley…

You really ARE a giant dum-dum of a little boy, aren't you?
Like, I love du Maurier and I've actually managed to not spoil the plot of this one for myself before I read it, so I know we're pre GOTHIC PLOT TWIST - and I can't wait to see how Daphne tortures her characters - but oh. Oh Philip. Such an empty noodle on top of your neck. You could be malevolent or tragic. But right now you're just so oblivious.

(ARTE, Wh.)

  17. 🎬 Rebecca (1940) was Alfred Hitchcock’s first American project - an adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Gothic thriller about a marriage overshadowed by the memory of an aristocrat’s late wife. Starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.

  19. Daphne du Maurier’s 1941 novel Frenchman’s Creek is more swashbuckling romance than gothic romance. There's just enough action for adventure fans and for romance fans it really is insanely romantic. And it's clever and witty. It's a good read.

  21. No TV or laptop in the bedroom, so #books and the odd foray into #Mastodon to keep me from going stir crazy in #covid isolation. Bought #JamaicaInn by #DaphneduMaurier on holiday this year, aptly in #Cornwall. Don't know if it's because I'm ill but feel slightly let down. Loved #Rebecca.

  22. Daphne du Maurier’s 1941 Frenchman’s Creek can be described as a swashbuckling romance novel. Basically a bodice-ripper with some adventure and good suspense. If you like the sound of that combination you'll like it. It is insanely romantic.

  23. My little #covid companion, George. He's been in bed with me all day. I'm not daft, it's chucking it down with rain and I'm a warm alternative to a very autumnal day! I'm even #toocraptocrochet and I feel it would be a heath hazard.
