Dancer Hilda Holger (1905-2001) was born to a liberal Jewish family in Vienna Austria. After the Nazi takeover, she attempted to flee. With entry to Britain denied she made her way to safety in India. Her mother and 14 other relatives perished in the holocaust. In India Holger was inspired by Indian art & incorporated many hand movements from Indian dance into her work. As a teacher her classes were open to students of all races, religions & nationalities as well as those with physical challenges. Eventually Holger immigrated to Britain where she continued to teach just weeks before her death at age 95!
