Speaking of #flags and the #Danish #Dannebrog in particular, here's one I'm immensely proud of. It's hanging in a secret location in #Kyiv, in the office of an aid organization that helps us provide donated vehicles for the armed forces of #Ukraine.

After completing the 2.000 km drive from #Denmark, volunteer drivers sign the flag in a small ceremony. Usually in a parking spot somewhere in Kyiv, lit by flashlights.

Why? Because fuck you, Putin.

🇩🇰 Since we're celebrating a #birthday, we have raised the flag. Had to take down the pole, put in a new flag line and raise it again, which was a bit of a challenge, given today's rough wind.

I hear we're a bit weird about flags in #Denmark, waiving them obsessively on all occasions. There is nothing religious, right wing or aggressively nationalistic about this - it's all about unity and tradition, and I think it's kind of #nice.

According to the Interwebs, "The #Danish #flag, known as #Dannebrog, is believed to have originated on June 15, 1219, when it reportedly fell from the sky during the Battle of Lyndanisse, aiding King Valdemar II's forces. It is recognized as the oldest continuously used national flag in the world, with its design featuring a white Nordic cross on a red background, symbolizing Christianity"

There’s a cluster of old fisherman’s cottages by the sea all flying 🇩🇰 #Dannebrog – it’s not an official ‘flag day’ so could be a local celebration of a birthday, anniversary or wedding. Danes use their flag at celebrations as well as using it to express their love and pride for their own country.
