Clowes's graphic novel almost decides to settle on a narrative idea, but is mostly a rambling and mean-spirited series of hopelessness and downward punching sold as comedy or satire. The film, also by Clowes, repairs much of this.

I finished #DanielClowes' #MONICA #Fantagraphics the other night. After a few days of thinking about it, I'm now reading some reviews to get other takes on it.

Watched Ghost World last night for the first time in probably 20+ years. I'd forgotten how great that movie is and its statements on music, culture, and alienation are just as spot-on today as they were when it came out toward the end of the pre-cell phone era of 2001. If you've never seen it, watch it. And if you have teenagers, have 'em watch it with you!
