Live album from Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David Haskins, and David J, recorded in London and Liverpool in 1981 and 1982. I always loved this cover - a photo by Eugene Merinov - and the labels with the Bauhaus style faces in black and white. Great set of live versions, including a nine-and-a-half minute "Bela Lugosi's Dead." Also a wonderful picture sleeve. Although self-titled, this was actually the fourth LP from Love and Rockets, following after Earth Sun Moon. It was also their last for 5 years as they pursued various solo projects. "So Alive" became their biggest hit in the US and made the album their best-selling here. Debut album for Love and Rockets, though "Ball of Confusion" preceded it as a single under that band name. I always called this "Seventh Dream of a Teenage Heaven" but clearly it isn't. Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins crafting just a fantastic and new sound here after Bauhaus split in 1983 and after Ash and Haskins spent time as Tones on Tail. Yes, I did save this one for halloween. This was a compilation EP of the singles versions of βDark Entries,β βTelegram Sam,β and βTerror Couple Kill Colonel.β Love that back cover photo.
I was today years old when I realized that John Cale wrote βRosegarden Funeral of Sores,β the opening triplet of which is burned into my adolescent brain so much it still comes up whenever I am tired of dealing with people:

My copyβvia a record fair at Mill No. 5 in Lowell MAβis a UK pressing with a white b-side label, pressed by Damont. I donβt believe this was ever issued in the US.

Second studio album from Bauhaus and their first on Beggars Banquet (In The Flat Field was on 4AD), with a cover drawn by Daniel Ash, across a gatefold and on the labels.
The first five Bauhaus records are are perfect β as is the singles collection 1979-1983 and most of the bands that followed in the Bauhaus diaspora (Daliβs Car, Love and Rockets, and Tones on Tail).

Debut album from Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David Jay, and Kevin Haskins aka Bauhaus. Bauhaus and its many spinoffs (Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets, Daliβs Car) are among my favorite musical lineages.
Theyβd released βBela Lugosiβs Deadβ as a single in 1979 on Small Wonder records, but this debut came out on 4AD which itself was new in 1980 under the Beggars Banquet umbrella.
The cover is a photograph called Homage to Purvis de Chavannes by American photographer Duane Michals β hopefully it doesnβt get my account flagged as naughty.
My copy β as so many in the last few weeks via Slipped Disc at a Mill No 5 record fair β is a 2013 reissue.

Daniel Ash - Stripped
Out of all the folks in Bauhaus, Daniel Ash feels like the one who felt the most hemmed in by the success of that band, and later, Love and Rockets.
Stripped takes material from those and Tones on Tail and radically reworks them, tilting hard into club, reggae, etc. (Originally, it was going to be acoustic but Daniel, no surprise, found that boring.)
