  2. I can't get over the TC show tonight. They may be my favorite band right now? Their deep knowledge of jamband lore utilized to create their own jamband lore, adding metalayers to the already most postmodern of music genres, kind of blows my mind. If you believe that the band is aware of and controlling all the details (eg teasing Frankie Says a couple weeks after Trey did the same in the biggest jam of the MSG run), and I do believe they are, then it's maybe the most brilliant thing ever.

  3. #NowPlaying ❝We began this journey by looking around and noticing all the bells in our sonic environments that we hadn’t considered before. We each recorded the bells and sculpted those resonant chimes into the music on this album.❞ — #HowardStelzer & #Dang, Spring 2023 buriedinslaganddebris.bandcamp

  5. I'm starting to really, really tire of #HackerNews. The quality of discourse has been going downhill, and I'm pretty sure far-right nutters are trolling the site for reactions at this point.

I don't quite buy "#dang is a #cryptofascist", but eventually, not moderating your site has the same effect as being one.

I'm not going to go back to #Reddit. I've heard of #Lobsters but I need an invite to register. Any other suggestions for #tech spaces worth using?

  6. and by pony i mean #Pony a toolmaker apparently

i mean it is better than it was and I can use it and i did kinda go off scrubbing it and filing down casting marks but what it really needs is that hole filled in and re-tapped back out and that’s not something I can fix #dang

  7. @temporal Dang's moderation guidelines are an excellent reference (he's occasionally mentioned gathering these into a book, hrm...).

I'd highlighted one a few days ago here: toot.cat/@dredmorbius/10739178

We have to moderate effects (or likely effects), not intent. Effects are observable while intent often isn't, and of course it's effects which actually make a difference on the site, whether intended or not.

That gets to another point I've been increasingly convinced of about human behaviour. Trying to determine moties or intent is attractive, and we seek to do it (it affords predictability, or at least the illusion of same), but it's ultimately unnecessary. If you can show that A -> B, then ... well, so long as the relationship's reasonably predictable, that's all you really need.

And it steers well clear of the far more difficult problem of attempting to ascertain intent.

(There are some results which I'd be willing to tolerate on other bases, e.g., social equity or exposing an obscure truth. I'll occasionally disagree with dang on those points.)
