So the neighbour wanted to replace his old redgum sleeper retaining wall which was probably built 40 years ago but now rotting away and in danger of collapse. So I volunteered to help because I knew that there was still lots of good firewood in there somewhere. After crowbarring them out, then chainsawing into manageable chunks I dragged them back to my property to hose off the dirt and moss. Then I split them into firewood logs.
The trees that this wood came from was probably felled 100 years ago, then lay in the ground supporting a railroad for 60 years, then got repurposed as a retaining wall for 40 years, now they are warming my house.

Yet another beautiful #sunset in Melbourne tonight, from a suburban street in #glenwaverley #Australia.

As the sun was setting in the west (first pic), the remnants of the sunshine illuminated the #Dandenongs (our hills out to the outer eastern-suburbs).

Notice how the collective hilltop looks bronze-like in colour from the sunshine, reflecting off the 500+ hectares (estimation) of foliage in the distance?

Whilst a small proportion of these hills are a little bare, most are covered with local flora such as densely packed #Gumtree’s.

The shining silvery squares are house roofs and you can see two layers of cloud cover separated by grey sky.

The bottom cloud has a top layer of orange from the reflection of the sun.

You can see some birds in the distance too.

So too a dome structure (from a local shopping centre), power lines and green trees in the foreground.

It’s chilly now (just after 7pm) and daylight savings ends along the eastern sea board of Australia, tonight.

So that’s an extra hours sleep (bonus!) but the evenings will become darker sooner as we head deeper into autumn and soon, into our winter.

The cycle of the seasons continues. 🙌

boys have a bright red body with green wings, the girls are green all over.
Then the #Cockatoos turned up and chased them away.
Cockatoos don't like to share.
