Mr 10 has been doing a great job of DM'ing our family D&D game. Last session I noticed the Player's Handbook had some art with runes in it! And they don't look like garbage!! I can already read the first two words!
Finally! A chance to show the kids that learning the writing of our ancestors has real-world use!
After the session wraps up I begin transliteration, eager to tell the story of this epic image, and inspire a love of futhorc in my family. I'm literally trembling with excitement.
"What does it say, father?"
The first line reads:

Still enjoying the #Wizardry remake! I think the secret to having fun with it is to go in with the right attitude.
People think #CRPGs are these games with rich stories (which usually aren't all that rich IMO), where you're trying to Save The World or some such rot.
Wizardry is a lot more like old-school #DandD. You have a bunch of hard-luck types who are quested by a ruler of dubious sanity to get an amulet back that might well have been rightfully taken. Of those characters of yours, often, bad things happen to them. Sometimes the die. Sometimes they DIE die. Sometimes you have to choose who goes on to adventure and who's left in a wooden box (or an urn) forever in the Inn.
Your characters aren't world-shakers. They're objects of sympathy. You're with them as they try, and sometimes fail, in the dungeon. I really like that aspect.

This week in D&D we:
- hid in the fireplace from whatever was coming down the stairs
- found out that they were also coming down the chimney
- panicked a little
- threw a fireball in a very small room, with great effect and surprisingly little collateral damage
- mopped up and pressed on
- met a ghost who told us to fuck off
- asked if we could help with any unfinished business
- had to revive 3/5 of the party, that'll be a no I guess
- kicked down a ghost's bedroom door
- whiffed with the magic sword we found
- paddled / bonfires / sneak attacked a rude ghost into oblivionNext week in D&D: SHORT REST

I can't find the tooted link, but I opened up this article yesterday to read today (as a post blood test reward) and it's beautifully written and heart-breaking. But also shows the power of D&D and TTRPGs to allow people to better understand themselves and offer the chance to grow and learn. It also demonstrates how inhuman prison systems are. What a waste.

Last week in D&D (I forgot? Apparently?) we:
- were on a boat motherfuckers don't you ever forget
- fought some merfolk
- fell in
- rescued several Gavins – sadly, several more perished
- accelerated the ship to ramming speed
- failed to ram a merman
- arrived in Neverwinter, the one place we all started out trying not to be
- found a pub that used to be a boat
- tried to get The Punching Game going (no takers)
- met an old 'friend'
- played cards (badly)
- agreed to some _very mild_ human trafficking
- were heavily advised not to go into the city- got back on the boatNext / this week: Lasers and Feelings!
