The BitchX is Back!

No, not the Elton John song from the seventies - The #IRC client (considered the most popular before #Irssi and #weechat) back in the late 90's on #DALnet and into the 2000's.

But there's a twist, this is an entirely revamped beast, kinda like finding an old Model A Ford that's so rusted out even the axles are seized up and the doors are paper thin with shattered windows, and plenty of bullet holes in the body...

... and then restoring it back to factory showroom floor condition. Except for the engine - a rusted hunk of metal that was replaced with a brand new Chevy 454 Big Block V8; something really contemporary that you might not expect. I'll leave you to discover what that is by visiting the link where the maintainer explains everything :)

And remember, you too can once again be Too Lame to run BitchX!

I've just made young friends of mine aware of Internet Relay Chat. They are so excited that we will be using IRC as a Communications protocol.

I have accounts on different server networks which are still thriving
I remember the wonderful Eggdrop bot running on the AmIRC channel on Dalnet

Thanks for the boost! Man, #DALnet... that's a name I haven't heard in a long time!

Of course, stuff like TeX have an important role to fill, and markdown has some serious limitations.

But for casual writing and notetaking, markdown is pretty wonderful.

I'm so glad that plain text won the format wars!!! XD

I thought to myself the other day, I haven't really been on #IRC in a long time. So I hopped on #EFNet and #DALNet to see what there was to see.

Ghost towns.

I spent so many hours on IRC back in the late 90’s/early 00's.

@ian Damn right. Though I hope they don't start having votes on it :)

We went through decades of this with #IRC, when #Eris forked off the main universe, to create #EFNet, then the major forks of #Undernet, #Dalnet and #IRCNet - I suppose the big difference here is that different servers can allow different functionality within the same galaxy.

We just need to bring back #SixDegrees and the only change we need to make on it, is to make sure that the only post editor is #TECO
