I'm not new to mastodon but I am new to this server so perhaps an(other) introduction is in order? I teach #Victorian literature and detective fiction at #Dalhousie. My research interests include ethical criticism; historiography; and 19th- and 20th-C women writers of 'novels of purpose' (which is what I am focusing on in my current projects).
I've been writing my blog Novel Readings since 2007. I post there about things I read, about my teaching, about academia and criticism more generally, and sometimes about personal things.
When I'm not reading, I like to crochet and do cross-stitch, both of which are good ways to keep the hands busy while listening to bookish podcasts.
If the bird site really does implode, I'll miss it a lot, but it's the community I've found there that matters to me, and maybe it will survive in new spaces - like this one!

Close to my summer home at #Dalhousie in #Chamba district of #HimachalPradesh is this amazing place, no less than #Switzerland.
Just below #Khajjiar, which incidentally is certified (in 1992) as 'Mini Switzerland' by the Swiss National Tourist Office is this view of #ChameraDam and #ChameraLake.

I have to bitch about #Dalhousie University a bit. My wife applied for a job there a while ago. She had to make an account to submit the application. Didn't end up getting it, but ever since then she's been getting unsolicited calls to take part in surveys from--you guessed it--Dalhousie University.
That's not ok.
