Beim gestrigen Menschenmalen (menschenmalen.wordpress.com) stand Pauline Modell. Für mich war es das zweite Treffen, bei dem ich sie zeichnen konnte. Es ist – auch wenn ich das gar nicht richtig benennen kann – für mich etwas anderes, ob ich ein Modell zum ersten oder eben zum wiederholten Mal zeichne.
Die Posen waren zwischen einer und 15 Minuten lang.

Gestern habe ich mir ein neues Skizzenbuch besorgt – in der doppelten Größe des bisherigen Buches. Außerdem habe ich eine handvoll neuer Aquarellstifte gekauft. Ich merke, dass ich mich sowohl an das Format als auch an die neuen Stifte gewöhnen muss, was völlig o.k. ist.

Meine daily sketches vom 05.11.25: am Mittwoch war ich – nach einer anderthalb Jahre langen Pause – zum zweiten Malen beim Aktzeichnen in der Alten Feuerwache, Köln (altefeuerwachekoeln.de). Die Posen waren zwischen drei und zwölf Minuten lang.

Am letzten Tag unseres einwöchigen Herbsturlaubs in Wien habe ich noch die Karlskirche gezeichnet.
Eigentlich wollte ich einen anderen, »nervöseren« Zeichenansatz verwenden, bin dann aber doch intuitiv wieder auf die deutlichen, »sauberen« Tuschekonturen mit anschließender Kolorierung »zurückgefallen«. Egal.

Last week portraits. I was a menace this Monday! Managed to splatter acrylic paint on an already finished portrait by dropping the vial lid on it, then somehow flung the vial halfway across the room trying to close it. 😂

Pages from... *squints* 20 to 24 July. This will be another double-update week, but we've almost caught up!
It's funny how minor inconveniences can grate on you. In end of the sketchbook there's a half cm level difference between odd and even pages now but I swear it makes all difference in the world.

Tried a new inexpensive paper under my hand to counter the smudgier 8B pencil and... the idea was to replace it more often, but it's so toothy it smudges worse even when new and clean! I'll be trying something different this week.

Last week I tried black acrylics, hoping to reach the perfect black shadows and got the worst of the two worlds instead: Slightly washed out details that don't fit together with pencils while making the graphite shine obvious. Still worth the try! 😂

It's amazing how practice alters your relationship with a skill. I used to be mildly stressed about the challenge when I started sketching.
It has become no less challenging, but nowadays when I need to chill working on a pencil portrait is a sure way to ease my mind.

Today’s #dailysketches is a little #watercolor of a candle we’ve had for years, on a lovely wrought iron spiral candlestick. I resorted to my trusty tube of white #gouache for the highlights on the candlestick, which may infuriate purists, so perhaps I should call this #MixedMedia
To vent a frustration: since I’ve been doing sketches in my #moleskine watercolour sketchbook, I’ve largely given up posting them on Instagram, because it refuses to allow the full elongated aspect ratio ☹️
