Thought for the Week: In this passage, God delivers a harsh critique of leaders who have abandoned their post to pursue personal desire. He calls them “greedy dogs” and “ignorant shepherds” who, instead of feeding and watching over the flock, are entirely consumed by selfish gain. The core failure is not just their greed, but their neglect of responsibility.

It is easy to point fingers at leadership, but this verse invites personal reflection: Am I “looking to my own way” rather than God’s path? Or am I truly satisfied, or am I constantly chasing “more” while ignoring the needs of those around me?

Self-centeredness blinds us, much like it did the shepherds in Isaiah’s day. It blinds us to the needs of our families, communities, and to God’s calling. True fulfillment is never found in grabbing for more, but in serving with a selfless heart.

Today, let us ask the Lord to check our hearts, that we might be servants who watch out for others, not greedy dogs pursuing our own gain.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I become consumed by my own selfish desires. Help me to be a “watchman” in my own life, looking out for those around me, and finding my satisfaction in Your will. Direct my path toward service, not selfish gain. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen..

Thought For The Week: Back in the old days, if you couldn’t have kids—if you were a eunuch—everyone pretty much ignored you. You were left out, made to feel less than, sometimes even invisible. But this passage flips that script. God reaches out to anyone feeling dried up, overlooked, or like they don’t matter, and He makes a promise you can actually hang onto.

Look at what the verse says: choose what makes God happy. It’s not some quick, once-and-done decision. You’ve got to do it deliberately, again and again—choosing God’s ways over whatever everyone else expects of you. Maybe right now you feel boxed in or stuck, like you’re a “dry tree.” Maybe life hasn’t gone your way, or people have shut you out. But God isn’t counting your achievements or demanding perfection. He’s searching for a heart that keeps coming back, stays true, and actually wants Him above everything.

So just keep it simple today: relax in His grace, follow His rhythms, and hold tight to your connection with Him. The next part of this scripture promises an everlasting name, one that can’t be erased. Your worth isn’t about your resume or reputation; it’s about who you belong to.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for always noticing me. Help me focus on what makes You smile today instead of chasing my own stuff. I’m clinging to Your promises, trusting that You’ve given me a name and a place that really lasts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Devotional: Let’s face it, most promises don’t mean much anymore. People throw out words, then disappear, and you’re left wondering if anything actually matters. But this text gets to the heart of the matter. When God speaks, it’s not empty chatter. His words set things in motion—real action, real change. Each promise packs a punch, kind of like when He spoke and the universe just happened.

God’s Word is like rain or snow hitting the ground. It doesn’t fade away—it gets to work, quietly helping seeds sprout and life grow. Honestly, sometimes it feels like nothing’s going on in your own story. Like everything’s just underground, hidden. But God’s busy behind the scenes, working in those spots you think are empty. Those gaps don’t mean failure; it just means He’s building something in secret.

So don’t quit. Waiting can wear you down, but don’t let it win. Whatever God promised—about your family, your health, or your future—hold onto it, dig your roots in deep. This isn’t about how steady or strong you are. It’s all about your faith. It’s all on Him. If He said it, He’ll do it.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that Your Word never fails. Thank You that I can trust in Your promises, even when I cannot see them being fulfilled yet. Help me to rest in Your faithfulness and stand firm, knowing that Your Word is actively accomplishing Your perfect will in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Aaron Burr’s cousin writes on the Last Judgment from Matthew 25. He says our mercy is not the only criteria by which humans are accepted or rejected by God. But it is the foremost in human excellence and divine estimation. Its opposite is the highest in divine abhorrence.

A pastor in my youth wouldn’t allow any interpretation like this : it was just nope to socialism and nope to works righteousness. Really, no meaning.
