π₯βͺγ°γ°γ°βͺβ βͺβͺβͺβͺβͺβͺβͺπ’βͺDark brown foliage-gleaner of mature rainforest understory. Warm dark brown body, with a clean whitish throat patch and reddish brown tail. Does not have prominent reddish brown in the wings like many other foliage-gleaners do; the clean whitish throat, plain face (without a strong eyebrow) and habit of foraging low are other good distinguishing features to tell it apart from other foliage-gleaners. Primarily found in the understory of mature rainforest. Listen for its song, a musical trill with stuttered introductory note, βch-trrrrrrrrβ, similar to that of Chestnut-crowned Foliage-gleaner from denser secondary growth habitats, but slightly lower and with a more distinct introductory note.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Small, earthen-toned forest flycatcher. Closely related to Asian Brown (under which it is sometimes regarded as a subspecies) but much browner overall, with more extensive brown on the underparts. Streaking can be either relatively well-defined or smudgy; it is never as clear-cut and solid-looking as on Gray-streaked Flycatcher, and it is never as dark and extensive as in Dark-sided Flycatcher. Behavior like that many other similar flycatchers: sallies from an exposed perch to take prey, often in a clearing or edge area.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Small scrubwren with white eyebrow and pale iris. Has a dark face with a clear white eyebrow and chin stripe. Primarily olive-brown with a black-and-white shoulder patch and paler front. Chin is white with fine black streaking on breast and upper belly. This species is found in southwestern Australia, across the southern coast, to its eastern-most location along Spencer Gulf just north of Adelaide. Found in a wide range of habitats but typically only present where there is reasonably thick undergrowth. It often makes a grumpy buzzing call but also sings a clear musical song. Formerly considered a subspecies of White-browed Scrubwren.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Attractive small antwren. Males are gray with a black crown and a diagnostic black patch on the chest; females have a cinnamon head and underparts and brownish upperparts. Inhabits deciduous forest, gallery forest, and caatinga woodland, where it forages from the understory to the canopy, often accompanying mixed-species flocks. The song is a rapid rising series of slightly harsh βcaaβ notes.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬A large, robust rusty lark with a short crest, hefty bill, and prominent rufous wing panel that is obvious in flight. Pairs are resident in open grassland and grassy savanna. It is most conspicuous when it perches up singing a sweet, simple song of 2-3 whistled notes such as βtreee-treelooβ. The similar Red-winged Lark is larger than Sentinel Lark and less compact, with a longer tail and blackish patches on the sides of the neck.

π₯βͺγ°γ°γ°βͺβ βͺβͺβͺβͺβͺβͺβͺπ’βͺSmall grayish flycatcher, very similar to other flycatchers, especially Dusky and Gray. Subtle differences include smaller bill with limited pale base, slightly more peaked crown, and longer wingtips. Also note habitat during breeding season: Hammond's prefers mature conifers, often seen higher up in trees than Dusky. Habitat overlaps more with other flycatchers during migration and winter; found in a variety of brushy wooded habitats. Back is greenish with a yellow wash to belly; fall birds in fresh plumage are brighter than spring and summer birds. Voice is key to identification, especially call notes: high-pitched "peek" and whistled "peer." Without an excellent view, silent birds often best left unidentified.

Favors open and semiopen habitats from rocky and scrubby slopes to bogs and lakeshores; often around villages and ski lodges, where it nests inside buildings. β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Widespread in the Andes and locally at lower elevations. Favors open and semiopen habitats from rocky and scrubby slopes to bogs and lakeshores; often around villages and ski lodges, where it nests inside buildings. Often seen on prominent perches; can be confiding, but also flies long distances. Identified in most of range by size and extensively white tail. Told from similar but much rarer and slightly bulkier White-tailed Shrike-Tyrant by slender, all-dark bill (pale below on young Black-billed), and pale eyes (darker on young).

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Large, mostly white raptor that cruises over lakes, rivers, and coastal waterways in search of fish. Impressively widespread: found on every continent except Antarctica. Mostly white head and underparts; dark brown back. In flight, holds wings with a kink in the wrist (shaped like an "M"). Stick nests are conspicuous on top of channel markers, utility poles and high platforms near water. Often seen plunging feet-first into water from high in the air to grab fish.

Rather uniform rufous-brown overall with a brighter tail and a buff throat. Often associated with army-ant swarms and sometimes follows mixed-species flocks, but can also be encountered alone. The northern subspecies lacks the buff throat and has more rufous in the wings and tail. The song is a long (~60 seconds) series of βtchip-tchip-tchipβ notes.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Medium-sized woodcreeper with a short bill. Found in the lower to middle levels of humid forests where it moves restlessly. Rather uniform rufous-brown overall with a brighter tail and a buff throat. Often associated with army-ant swarms and sometimes follows mixed-species flocks, but can also be encountered alone. The northern subspecies lacks the buff throat and has more rufous in the wings and tail. The song is a long (~60 seconds) series of βtchip-tchip-tchipβ notes.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬Widespread, medium-sized woodpecker with a bright red back and three toes. Endemic to Sri Lanka. Associated with home gardens, plantations, and most wooded habitats except for dense tropical forest. Separated from all other flamebacks except Black-rumped by dark throat, lack of a contrasting black horizontal stripe below the cheek, and its distinctive call. Separated from Black-rumped by its spectacular red back. Male has a complete red cap while the female has a black and white spotted forehead. Often detected by its loud βki-ki-ki-ki-ki,β which steadily increases in pace and ends in a trill.

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬A fairly small, long-tailed bird of lowland and foothill forest interior. Plain brown underparts and head with rufous wings and rump. Black tail with obvious white tips which it often keeps fanned and cocked. Does not normally co-occur with other brown fantails. Possible overlap with Arafura Fantail although that species has black face and chest markings. Similar to female Rufous Fantail but Rufous-backed is found at lower elevations and lacks the rufous underparts and head. Voice, a lazy, downward series of slurred whistles, sounding like βThree Blind Miceβ.
