TIL #Acson is a Malaysian AC brand (among other things they sell) founded in 1984, but was later acquired by Japanese #Daikin in 2006, and has since been a subsidiary of Daikin. Anyway, people are saying that the 3 best, most reliable AC brands are Daikin (and Acson), #Panasonic, and #Midea, in that order.
I can attest that our Panasonic and Daikin ACs last forever with almost no issue besides requiring routine service. My super old #York AC (that doesn't look like a typical AC at all, looks like it was from the 80s or something lol idk how to describe it) was a beast too. -

Das funktioniert wunderbar und ist leicht zu installieren. Musst halt MQTT am Laufen haben. -
Seit Mai letzten Jahres heizt hier eine Daikin Altherma Haus und das Warmwasser auf. Unser Haus ist von 1890 und hat vor 16 Jahren eine Außendämmung bekommen. Die Fenster sind über 20 Jahre alt und wir haben unsere Heizkörper nicht ausgetauscht. Im Wohnzimmer heizen wir mit einem Specksteinofen zu.
Bis jetzt haben wir inklusive dem Strom für die Pumpe eine Arbeitszahl von 3,83, wenn wir den Strom für die Pumpe geschätzt rausrechnen von 4,14. Der Strom wird über einen Shelly Pro3em gemessen. Seit kurzem bekomme ich aus der Wärmepumpe detaillierte Werte (https://github.com/Arnold-n/P1P2MQTT), so dass ich die Wärmepumpe in Home Assistant besser kontrollieren kann (die Daikin App ist grottig schlecht).Läuft gut!

The agency arranged for a second contractor to examine the Callahans’ heat pump. The new contractor ultimately determined it had suffered a fatal circuit board malfunction from a factory defect, Stoddard said. The problem had not been the result of the first contractor’s workmanship, the second contractor told #EfficiencyMaine.
"The Callahans’ next-door neighbor also had the same model of heat pump installed by BRF Services and experienced the same glitch, Efficiency Maine confirmed.
"In response, Efficiency Maine removed the Callahans’ heat pump model from its list of rebate-eligible heat pumps, though the agency only heard of the two instances in Waterville where it malfunctioned.
“Luckily, there were several other models that worked very well, so we just limited eligibility to those other models,” Stoddard said.
"Efficiency Maine then paid for the second contractor to install a new heat pump system for the Callahans in late December 2024. It was one of the only times the agency has done so, Stoddard said.
"The second heat pump wasn’t perfect: Around New Year’s, it started shutting off after only a few hours of use, Christine Callahan said. The system’s air filter was clogged – which doesn’t usually happen so quickly — but it was replaced, Stoddard said."

"The fallout between the Callahans and their contractor demonstrates the value of getting multiple quotes from the more than 800 rebate-eligible contractors on Efficiency Maine’s 'registered vendor list.' Efficiency Maine recommends getting at least three quotes for heat pump work before settling on one specific vendor. The Callahans picked the first and only contractor they spoke with."

Heute habe ich es endlich geschafft die #Klimaanlage, die wir seit Oktober zum Heizen verwenden, in #HomeAssistant einzubinden. 🫣 Was ich jedoch vermisse: Es gibt keine Möglichkeit die Bedarfssteuerung der #Splitklima in Home Assistant einzustellen. Über die Onecta App geht das. Weiß jemand da mehr und kann mir helfen oder hab ich einfach nur Tomaten auf den Augen 🫣 #FragFedi #Wärmepumpe

@redback yup. I threatened to lodge a complaint with the ACCC to get an aircon supplier to replace the wifi adapter in the #Daikin aircon they sold me after a firmware update broke compatibility with #HomeAssistant – up until that point they’d been entirely unhelpful
def agree we should have clear regulations on this now that we live in the shitty timeline where even manufacturers of physical products seek ongoing subscription revenue to continue using their products, abandon ongoing updates & support (or just outright brick them) the second they’re no longer profitable

Seit April haben wir eine Split-Klima-Anlage von #Daikin welche wir seit Oktober zum Zuheizen von Wohnzimmer & Küche bzw. Arbeitszimmer verwenden. Die vergangenen drei Tage bei bis zu -6 Grad hat sie wunderbar gemeistert (bis auf eine Sache*, später mehr). Sie läuft mehr oder weniger 10 - 15 Std pro Tag und genehmigt sich ca 2,5 - 4,5 kWh Strom und hält die Raumtemperatur bei 20 - 22 Grad. Ich habe sie auf Bedarfssteuerung 40 % und geringste Lüfterstufe eingestellt. Ich hatte nicht damit gerechnet, dass sie derart gut laufen würde. Sie übertrifft meine Erwartungen bisher deutlich. Aufgrund des geringen Stromverbrauchs passt sie auch gut in Kombination zu einem #Balkonkraftwerk gerade auch im Sommer als wir sie zum Kühlen verwendeten. (1/4)

Daikin enshittified their aircon firmware in one fell swoop with their 2.9.0 (IIRC) update, breaking the local API – which worked perfectly well with #HomeAssistant – and forcing people to use their (shitty, natch) app instead^
their shitty app periodically forced you to apply their “optional” firmware update (even when you’ve explicitly set the “automatically upgrade firmware” toggle to the “fuck no” position) by preventing you from even using the app to control your device until you submitted to installing the upgrade (i.e. they bricked their own app until you agreed to brick (more or less) your aircon) 😡🤬
in the case of the #Faikin #ESP32 module though, it has to be installed inside the aircon head unit, which involves touching (in AU) 240V mains power – and in AU you can’t do that (legally) unless you’re a sparky 💁♀️
plus, I expect that an insurance company might decline to pay out if your house burns down as a result of a fault in your aircon & they discover you had a non-vendor-approved hardware mod installed 😤

Die Heizung (#DAIKIN Altherma 3 H HT ECH2O) an #HomeAssistant anbinden hat sich für uns gelohnt.
Mit meiner Zusatzregelung erreicht das ganze jetzt gravierend verbesserte Wirkungsgrade in der Übergangszeit. Bin gespannt ob das über die Heizperiode anhält.
Gateway ist ein #RaspberryPi Zero 2W mit PiCAN Zero mit anderem DC-DC-Wandler und extremer Konfiguration, damit ichs komplett am 24V / 30mA Raumthermostatanschluss betreiben kann.

Fettes Kudos an den Entwickler. #MQTT, abwärtskompatible HTTP API zu den alten Adaptern des Herstellers, insgesamt ein riesiges Featureset, total geil.

It looks like the basic issue was indeed MDNS. In hindsight this is blindingly obvious. I was hijacking the UDP port with my own MDNS for name.local web pages.
I cut down and cut down my stuff until that came to light. Now I have to build back step by step (order of initialisation matters).
I want matter to be an entirely optional extra on my #Faikin modules if I can.
