  1. San Francisco International KSFO → Sacramento Executive KSAC

Back in the Daher TBM 930, with a small sightseeing loop over the Bay with great views of San Francisco and the well-known landmarks.

Today's short trip led to Sacramento, because if you're already in California, it's worth visiting the capital as well.

Apart from some gusts, the weather was excellent.

  2. Calexico International KCXL → Palm Springs International KPSP

Instead of taking the short, direct route, I decided to make a detour through Joshua Tree National Park and approach Palm Springs from the north. With the TBM 930, the visit to the national park was significantly shorter than by car (where you can – and should! – easily spend an entire day).

  3. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International KFLL → Florida Keys Marathon KMTH

How time flies! Today’s stage takes us from Fort Lauderdale via Miami Beach all the way to the Florida Keys. That means, the destination of this journey is almost in sight. Before we get there, though, we've got some stunning views of the Miami metropolitan area.

  7. Vero Beach Regional KVRB → Grand Bahama International MYGF

A few miles east of Florida lie the Bahamas. Since I’m already in the area, I thought a quick detour there would definitely be worth it. And it was.

  8. Daytona Beach International KDAB → Vero Beach Regional KVRB

About halfway along is Cape Canaveral. I’ve flown around the area a bit by hand. I’ve really underestimated the size of the place.

As on the previous legs, the weather was again unsettled and windy, but I’m getting used to it.

  9. Jacksonville Executive KCRG → Daytona Beach International KDAB

Through the flight, I learned that the famous Daytona International Speedway is located right next to the airport.

The weather was very changeable today, so I don’t need to mention again that there were strong crosswinds on takeoff and approach…

  10. Savannah/Hilton Head International KSAV → Jacksonville Executive KCRG

After a brief stop in Georgia, I’ve now arrived in Florida. The weather was perfect: endless blue skies stretched as far as the eye could see, a fitting welcome to the Sunshine State. The only minor challenge was the wind at lower altitudes, which was a bit strong again.

  11. Billy Mitchell KHSE → Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue KNJM

I traveled south along North Carolina’s coast with the TBM. Long stretches of sandy beaches and strong wind gusts stood out as the most striking features of this brief journey.

  12. Norfolk International KORF → Billy Mitchell KHSE

In the early morning, both the moon and the sun were visible at the same time. The sun was just rising as I flew over Kill Devil Hills – the site of the Wright brothers' work and the location of the first motor-powered flight (last image).

A runway length of only 3,000 feet at Billy Mitchell Airfield and crosswinds made the landing quite a challenge.

  13. Richmond International KRIC → Norfolk International KORF

Back in the United States for another attempt after resolving the technical issues. I’ve updated the keyboard shortcuts before takeoff ;-)

This flight was short but came with stunning views. The gusty crosswinds made landing quite a challenge. Had to make a go-around after the first try but managed to get down safely on the second attempt.

  14. Berlin Brandenburg Airport EDDB → Berlin Brandenburg Airport EDDB

Right after work, I took a round-trip flight to the Lower Lusatia region in the Daher TBM 930, passing by my current and former hometowns. The flight was in real-time with actual weather conditions, allowing me to witness both the moonrise and sunset at the same time (check out my previous posts in this thread for “photos”).

  15. Ronald Reagan Washington National KDCA → Norfolk International KORF

The way out of DC is just as winding as the way in – I’m taking off from runway 01 and navigating north through strong gusts, then making a wide turn to head southeast towards Norfolk. It’s calmer at 12,000 feet, but the gusts return as I reach lower altitudes for the approach.

However, I did not land this time, as mentioned in the previous post.

  16. Today is the day I realized that the shortcut for stopping video recording in the AMD Radeon Software is the same one that shuts down the engine in Microsoft Flight Simulator (yeah, in flight of course).

At least I was able to capture a brief video of today’s turbulent flight.

    #FlightSim #MSFS #Daher #TBM

  17. Atlantic City International KACY → Ocean City Municipal KOXB

There were no surprises on this flight along the Atlantic coast, except for one: I was too high during the initial approach, which necessitated a go-around before I was able to land safely.

  18. John F. Kennedy International KJFK → Philadelphia International KPHL

We received clearance from ATC to fly parallel to Manhattan for a while before turning southwest. The weather was fine first, but took a turn for the worse: Rain severely reduced visibility in Philadelphia, bringing it dangerously close to the minimums required for a safe landing. I suppose it isn’t always sunny in Philadelphia after all.

  19. Nantucket Memorial KACK → T. F. Green Airport, Providence KPVD

A brief flight with no issues offers the perfect opportunity to relish the golden hour light, the pleasant weather, and the nice scenery below.

  20. Provincetown KPVC → Nantucket Memorial KACK

It’s been a while since I sat behind the controls. Before the TBM (and I) developed rust, I brought it from the north of Cape Cod down to Nantucket in a short low-altitude flight.

  21. Boston Logan International KBOS → Provincetown KPVC

Destination: Nantucket. Reality: An unscheduled landing at the northern tip of Cape Cod. Between a fuel complication and some challenging crosswinds on the approach, it was a busy day in the cockpit.

    #FlightSim #MSFS #USA #NewEngland #Massachusetts #Boston #CapeCod #Provincetown #Daher #TBM

  22. Portland International KPWM → Boston Logan International KBOS

A nice loop after takeoff took me straight over the airport in Portland before the trip continued in glorious sunshine along the East Coast toward Boston.

I’d done almost the same route back in 2008, but that time by car heading north (first on I-95, then MA 1A and NH 1A).

  23. Berlin Regional Airport KMBL → Portland International KPWM

The flight took me back to the coast, but not without flying over Mt. Washington once more. The wind, coming almost straight down the approach path, helped with the buttery-smooth landing in Portland.

  24. Augusta State KAUG → Berlin Regional Airport KMBL

Berlin Regional is located a bit north of the White Mountain National Forest; the best-known peak here is Mt. Washington. The winter landscape offers a beautiful view from above.

I was in Berlin, NH in 2008 (with a car) and had a nice conversation at a gas station about how I’m also from Berlin – but the other Berlin, in Germany.

  25. Hancock County/Bar Harbor KBHB → Augusta State KAUG

I move a bit away from the coast toward the interior. Many lakes nestled in extensive forested areas offer a beautiful view of the Northeastern USA. The snow-covered White Mountains are already visible on the horizon.

Instead of letting the ILS bring me down to the the runway, I decide at short notice to land by hand after all.

  30. St. Stephen CCS3 → Hancock County/Bar Harbor KBHB

A dense cloud cover meant hardly any light reached the ground – but plenty of snow did. The anti-ice systems had their hands full, and I only just managed to reach the ILS minima.

  35. Halifax Stanfield CYHZ → St. Stephen CCS3

Leaving Nova Scotia for the last stop on Canadian soil at the small St. Stephen Airport, directly at the border to the Unites States. The runway there is only about 200 metres longer than the TBM’s required landing distance, so there’s not much margin for error on approach.

  36. McCurdy Sydney CYQY → Port Hawkesbury CYPD

Second attempt. The weather was actually great along the way, but at the destination it turned back to rain and strong winds. Won't give it another shot, at least not in this season ;-)

    #FlightSim #MSFS #Canada #NovaScotia #Sydney #PortHawkesbury #Daher #TBM

  37. McCurdy Sydney CYQY → Port Hawkesbury CYPD

Back in the Daher TBM 930, I flew an IFR trip to Port Hawkesbury. The windsock in Sydney was sticking straight out, with over 40 knots coming in at an angle from the front. The whole flight was correspondingly bumpy and included icing; I think I’ll repeat it in better weather.

  38. Saint Pierre LFVP → St. Andrews Codroy Valley CDA5

After takeoff and a big 270° turn, I cruised straight over Miquelon-Langlade (remember the last season of Peaky Blinders?) heading northwest. Hugged Newfoundland’s south coast all the way to the island’s western tip, where the tiny St. Andrews Codroy Valley airstrip marked the day’s finish line.

  39. St. John's CYYT → Saint Pierre LFVP

New journey: Starting from the far eastern tip of Newfoundland and tracing a path all the way to the Florida Keys.

First stop: Saint Pierre and Miquelon, France’s overseas collectivity just off North America.
