  1. #Transport for #London (TfL) is inviting #Barking and #Dagenham residents to take part in ‘The Big Shift’ during Innovation Week, exploring why some people choose to drive rather than use public transport, cycling or walking. Insights will help reduce congestion and support the Mayor’s target for 80% of trips by active travel or public transport by 2041.

The workshop involves parents or carers of children aged 4–11, new drivers aged 17–19, and residents aged 65 and over. Participants attend two one-hour in-person sessions on 12 June in Barking and Dagenham and 22 June at TfL offices. The first explores travel motivations; the second reviews and judges ideas developed by #TfL staff.

Participants receive a £50 voucher. Places are limited and not guaranteed. Applications close 31 May 2026, with successful applicants notified by 5 June. Eligibility and demographic questions must be completed to apply.

  5. Highlights of the consultation report for routes 287 and 687:
#Transport for #London and the London Borough of #Barking and #Dagenham consulted on re-routing buses 287 and 687 from the A13 to Maplestead and Goresbrook Roads to improve reliability during Lodge Avenue Flyover works. Of 405 responses, two campaigns emerged, mainly calling for New Routemasters and access through the Maplestead Road bus gate. Feedback was mixed: with campaign input, 38% of open-text comments were negative and 12% positive. When asked directly, 51% felt the changes would help them and 39% disagreed. Supporters highlighted improved safety, better access for older and mobility-impaired people and smoother trips. Concerns focused on isolation for Scrattons Farm Estate, A13 crossing difficulties, impacts on vulnerable groups and more traffic on Goresbrook Road. #TfL and the borough will proceed, with highway works in early 2026 and new routing expected in spring or summer 2026.

    Consultation ends 13 July 2025.

  12. As another fire breaks out in a block of flats cladded in dangerous material - this time in #Dagenham - your periodic reminder that Alistair Campbell successfully campaigned to remove the Labour MP who represented the constituency that contained #Grenfell and was campaigning for justice on behalf of the victims.

  13. I would describe them as a ‘wicked problem’ because whatever you do there are risks at every point because it’s financially often considered impossible to rehome all the occupants for the duration of the project.

The sad reality this morning is that all the occupants of the #Dagenham towerblock will have to be rehomed.

What was previously considered financially prohibitive now has to be done.

  15. I hope that everyone was evacuated from this towerblock in #Dagenham and that they are medically ok this morning.

It appears to have been a close call. Clearly lessons have been learned from #Grenfell and those are ongoing in terms of removing flammable cladding.

The risks and attention to detail for #retrofitting these blocks should not be underestimated.
