Originally discovered in 1874 by James Shopalnd, he reported the find to Professor Richard Owen.
The original fossil conglomerate weighted 8 tones, but up to 5 tones was lost in the extraction process. What was left was loaded into crates and sent to London.
In 1875, Owen named the fossil Omosaurus armatus.
Later several other specimens that were classified as species of Omosaurus.
In 1902, Federick Augustus Lucas renamed them Dacentrurus.

Adulthood is stupid – no one asks about your favourite dinosaur
Currently, mine is Dacentrurus.
Dacentrurus was a herbivore. It lived in the Jurassic period and inhabited Europe. Its fossils have been found in places such as Valencian Community (Spain), Metropolitan France (France) and Alentejo (Portugal). It may have walked where I live.
Here it is using its wicked tail attack to explain that this predator has made a very poor life choice.
