Et Moriemur – Tamashii no Yama (2022, Czechia)

Our next spotlight is on number 499 on The List, submitted by HailsandAles. Hidden in this excellent atmospheric/melodic funeral/existential doom music is a concept album so conceptual that the band forgot to tell us just what that concept was! But, not to worry, I went on a journey to figure it out.

Musical Interlude; I love mountains, having been born in Appalachia. And this piece, from a Czech composer, is a nice piece of musical illustration. And I love musical illustration.

"In the Tatra Mountains," composed by Vítězslav Novák, performed by the Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Karel Šejna.

This is a magnificent set of live recordings of Karel Ančerl and the Czech Philharmonic from the Czech Radio Archive, it forms a 15 CD collection but I'm streaming it from Tidal, Idagio doesn't seem to have it.

The recording cover 1949-1968, he left probably after the Prague Spring and went to Canada. He died in 1973 in Totonto where he was the Musical Director.

Musical Interlude: I was recently introduced to the work of Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů; I love this piece because it could almost be the theme to a 50s swashbuckler film. And I love my swashbuckers.

"Piano Concerto No. 2," composed by Bohuslav Martinů, performed by the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Robert Kolinsky on piano.

While your English is natively broken, and you openly intimidate speakers of any other languages - just because you didn't learn anything else - that's one of the cultural things, that's going to dawn on you, musically:
