I am in Manchester for a conference, but had the day off today, so I took the Brompton out for a ride in the Peak District.
I was already out in the Peak District with the Brompton last year (a strange coincidence has led me three times to the North of England within a year), but last time riding out from Sheffield.
I had a cool route planned, but turns out even this rainy country is plagued by wildfires and I had to reroute significantly because there were bridleways closed due to a still smoldering peat fire. I ended up not getting as deep into the Peak District as I wanted, instead pushing my bike up some steep walking paths and being stung by a thousand nettles.
But it was still nice, I got to enjoy a day in the wind and weather, soaking in the colors of this region. Plus, I ended up riding back into Manchester along the Peak Forest Canal, which is just a mind-boggling edifice. Gravel cycling.
100 km today, mostly blacktop.
I didn't realize it was 31C 'til I passed a time/temp sign somewhere halfway. Tonight's supposed to cool a bit. Good because we still have no a/c - it's chooched atm. It’s like old-fashioned summer.
Pix note: Whalen Corners is where a Donnelly brother was murdered in his bed by local crazies, some of whom reacted oddly to seeing a bicycle today - one's a chimp to them, being inexplicably out there.

New urban transport connecting Bratislava's midcentury modernism icons: Took a ride from former Hotel Kyjev (vacant many years) to Petržalka with the #Active2PublicTransport project. #Bratislava finished #tram line 3 to #Petržalka, one of the largest panel housings in Central #Europe. Instead of a underground line - originally planned in the 1980ies but never finished - the green and open spaces are now connected with green tracks above ground, along with generous paths for #walking and #cyling

Generally speaking, I am not to fond about this article about the sustainability of #bicycles because the author makes some dubious claims in my opinion but he still may have a very good point about #bikesharing being far less sustainable than owning your bike:

High speed crash while descending 50 km out. Shredded jersey and left skin on the tarmac. Chased back to the leaders, then left Pidcock in the dust (literally) and crossed the finish alone in Siena.

Dear drivers, if a cyclist is not in a 'cycle lane' (behind a painted line in the gutter) its because the 'cycle lane' is unsafe.If the cyclist is in 'your lane' (the road) next to a traffic island, (now here's the important bit), DONT FUCKING TRY AND PASS THEM.
a human life is worth more than 5 seconds of 'inconvenience'.
