Stat en voyage à #vélo : pour chacun de mes 6 voyages de 15j (en été, en France ou proche), j'ai eu exactement 1 averse de jour. (je ne compte pas la bruine bretonne) Donc à chaque fois j'ai bien fait de prendre mes vêtements de pluie, et ça ne m'a pas pourri ma journée.

Flatlands - (FINAL) Day 20: Heinsberg -> Kaarst (51 km)

The last stage of our tour was through the fields back to our starting point 3,5 weeks ago, where my 95 years old mother lives. She says that we are crazy to cycle so much, even if she probably cycled more in her entire life than me in mine (yet).

Flatlands - Day 19: Maastricht -> Heinsberg (47 km)

Leaving #Maastricht without visiting the #church that has been converted into a huge #bookstore with a #café would have been a... sin. Later, as we crossed the Dutch-German border, we noticed that of the four countries we visited on this trip, only #Germany marks its territory with a border sign.

Flatlands - Day 18: Huy -> Maastricht (63 km)

A ride along the #Meuse river, passing by the Tihange #nuclear power plant—where two reactors have been permanently shut down and the third is in maintenance—then alternating between abandoned sites from Wallonia ’s glorious past in heavy #industry and more idyllic spots. Finally, back to the #Netherlands .

After a day off in #Lille ,we headed back to #Belgium ,this time to #Wallonia .Unfortunately, when planning our route,I hadn’t realized that it rans for several kilometers along the cobblestone section of the famous “Paris-Roubaix” cycling race. Now I know why it’s also called “Hell of the North” ("l'enfer du Nord").

In #Nieuwpoort ,we left the coast behind and entered southwards the West Flanders plain. A major theater of World War I, the region is dotted with #peace memorials, some of which—such as the famous Yser Tower at #Diksmuide —have since become symbols of Flemish #nationalism .

We started already sick but with tailwind. Our #ferry across the #Meuse almost collided with one of those fantastic new #cargo #sailing #ships .Later, some non-human #pedestrians blocked the bike path. Then, it was a long battle against a fierce headwind! Now two days off to cure our colds.

Flatlands - Day 7: Zandvoort -> Hoek van Holland (62 km)

Thanks to the tailwind, we were sailing rather than cycling, traveling along a single paved bike path far from roads through the dunes, a unique ecosystem. We even saw a deer, but since it didn’t want to be photographed, we respected its #privacy .

It was a pleasant Sunday ride through the greater #Amsterdam area to the nearby #sea .Although the entire route follows wonderful bike paths, it obviously takes a long time because you have to stop frequently at traffic lights.
