So tell me cycling people of these parts: is there an open source cycling tracker-type tool anywhere (an alternative to the likes of Strava, MapMyRun, etc.?).

I know Open Street Map exists, but don't know if it's something you can use in these cases? (Need involvement a device's accelerometer, GPS, etc.)

Made an idiotic mistake driving at Shannonbridge @ 12:55. I let a white van bully that had been tailgating since Birr pressure me into overtaking a large group of cyclists at an inappropriate place. I had to move into their safety area between the pack and leads to avoid a collision. Terrified myself and probably them too. I can't believe I was so fucking stupid. ☹️

Has any cyclist in the North Down area ever found a sane cycling route from Belfast to Bangor?

In the past few weeks I’ve tried over Craigantlet (steep!), along the coast (sketchy on a road bike), round by Comber and over from Newtownards (long and draggy in parts).

I can’t believe that in 2024 we haven’t managed to create a safe route (quiet roads, relatively flat, like a proper path along the coast). 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, I didn't mean to actually predict anything, but not 60 seconds on the road, covered in Christmas lights, and not one but two* drivers overtook and pulled in on top of me, forcing me to brake and swerve to avoid being hit.

My SO is #ebike shopping. Needs to be
- available under the Irish bike to work scheme,
- have luggage racks for carrying the puppers
- step through frame if possible
- fat or skinny tyres
- mostly road and bohreen use.

With Radpowerbikes out of the market, I'm left looking at #Fiido T1 Pro and #Engwe M20s, but I'm not sure if there's a better option I'm missing? Halfords have a Carrera EBike as well.

Any insights from the #Mastodaoine massive?

We managed to get out between the showers to see my sister and brand new nephew, (6 days old, and adorable!) then down to the shops for a few bits. Though I wish we got a bit more space on the road sometimes!
Just after we got off the main road, The Sproglette lost the front wheel on gravel, and grazed her knee.

It’s quite hard to get a photo that captures how steep a hill your cycling up is but I reckon I got it in this one on the back road from #Bantry to #Barleycove last June. This a great route BTW especially as the main road is too narrow & busy to be a pm ascent cycle, the alternate is a quiet road that hugs the coast for part of its length with a couple of ruined castles and a stretch of modest cliff views over to #Sheepshead and beyond that #Bera #cyclingireland #wildatlanticwaycork

TIL my #Sixel takes a better #30SecondCommute video than my #Akaso. I also need to adjust or tighten the bands on my #QuadLock handlebar mount. It's not designed to handle a phone hanging vertically off the side.

Did a bike race near the Curragh this morning and someone had scattered Thumb Tacks on the road. There were multiple punctures and only by luck was a life threatening or life changing injury avoided. More #SundaySpannering this afternoon. Recently, I've been getting numb in my fingers on rides, sometimes in just a few kilometres. So I've swapped the stock BMX style bars back on, and we'll see how it goes. I've also raised the saddle to a more sensible height.

And I rescued this really nice canvas courier bag from the back of the shed and cleaned off the dust and mildew. I'll waterproof it and treat the leather before it goes back on the bike.
