@PapyrusBrigade I just hate this.
I wonder if any health advocacy groups could sue the province with a similar precedent to the #CycleTO case, that the province cannot make unilateral policy changes that it knows will kill people.

LOL Doug Ford so concerned about congestion his government wants to remove 900 metres of bike lanes, out of 22 kilometres. These sections have low cyclist traffic so far being so far out of the core, and removing tiny sections will have minimal effects on car traffic.
Ever with his eyes on the ball, that one.

Doug Ford every. damn. time.

“What exactly does the court’s bike-lane decision mean?
Yes, the Charter protected Toronto’s bike lanes. No, bike lanes are not a Charter right”
@jm_mcgrath on the court win protecting (for the moment) the Bloor, University, and Yonge bike lanes.

You're the best @cycletoronto

I love that they won their case! This is great news for #Toronto, #cycling, and #transportation in the city.
So happy to be a supporter of #CycleTO

WE WON.
Justice Schabas found that Ontario's law, Bill 212, violated section 7 of our charter rights.
The court was impatient with the Ontario government having no evidence to back up its claims.
The bike lanes on Bloor Street, University Avenue, and Yonge Street are now *protected* (get it?) from Doug Ford attempt to remove them.

Cycle Toronto wins Charter challenge, saving bike lanes on Yonge, University, and Bloor
(For now)

After promoting this anti-bike, anti-transit, anti-homeless event, did Councillor Brad Bradford skip attending because he saw that there were only 30 people there? I’m only hypothesizing, you’d have to ask him.

Toronto contains multitudes: the drivers who don't have to follow laws, the vandals who don't have to follow laws, and the cyclists who don't have to be safe.

Rumour on Urban Toronto has city councillor planning to kill some cycling infrastructure near the Danforth.
The neighbourhood is wealthy, drives more than it should given the subway nearby, and the cycling plan *adds* parking but it’s still not enough for car-fetish Toronto.

Bikes outnumber cars on Bloor St. W. during rush hour, data shows
-
Sometimes I think saving lives would be nice but then I remember that 48 cars over two kilometres would have to park nearby on a side street
Please accept my apologies car owners for my selfishness

🦋 RT @GraphicMatt:
Is the Esplanade not, like, the canonical ideal of the “side street” where the anti-bike crowd say bike lanes should go? There’s no appeasing these people.

You'll notice that #DougFord doesn't actually complain about the legal basis for keeping the injunction in place. He's just whining that he's not getting his way, laws and judicial independence be damned.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/doug-ford-ontario-judges-bail-reform-1.7522701
"The system is broken, and there's a lot of terrible, terrible bleeding-heart judges out there."
Right, because the judicial system has a terrible precedent of *checks notes* being _too sympathetic_ to people.
Keep at it, #CycleTO!

Another great article by @GraphicMatt
Although not the focus of the article, do not forget the impact of, dare I say it, active hostility towards viable alternatives to driving in Canada's densest city.
The promotion of sprawl and car dependency at all levels of government induces a demand that makes car traffic inevitable.

City of Toronto proposed "returning two car lanes to University Avenue near the city’s hospital row, narrowing the bike lanes and removing on-street parking."
I can't wait for the guaranteed next stage where car drivers suddenly claim that the on-street parking which takes up a lane is critical and must be retained.

Ford promised bike lane removals could happen today onward in TO (Bloor W, Yonge, & Uni). That means we’ve got to be vigilant & have our eyes open. If you see construction crews amassing to remove lanes, post/tag local cycling orgs & advocates. Send pictures. Be safe & don’t interfere.
If you see bike lanes being removed, please report it to

First bike commute of 2025 in the books! New grey jacket looks invisible in this morning’s weather, but it shines in headlights, plus my bike lights were on.

Finally got around to deal with the #DougFord bribe check.
Donated is all to #CycleTO, #VéloCanadaBikes and the #OttawaHospital.
I'm hoping Cycle Toronto will be able to kill that stupid bill 212 and Doug Ford should have invested in healthcare to start with.

The atmosphere today was overwhelmingly positive. The sense of shared connection was palpable.
There were cheers and smiles from people walking by on the sidewalks.
It started with bikes but I did see others start to pedestrianize the street. An older woman with a walker, people walking their dogs in the middle of the street, others simply going for a walk...

Next time you see someone biking on the sidewalk, look around for:
1. bike lanes blocked for construction
2. vehicles parked in bike lanes
3. glass shards and trash pushed into bike lanes
4. single painted bike lane lines on high-speed roads -
