Cybersecurity strategy is maturing, and CIOs & CISOs are being forced to mature with it.
Today I participated in SecurityWeek’s CISO Forum 2026 Outlook: Proactive Resilience, a strong discussion on moving security programs from reactive defense to intentional, business-aligned resilience.
What stood out for me:
🔐 Security must be explicitly tied to business outcomes — not just risk reduction
📊 Threat intelligence and attack surface management need to work together, not in silos
⚖️ Regulation and geopolitics are now first-order design constraints, not afterthoughts
🤖 AI helps — but only when paired with sound governance and judgmentRefreshing to hear CISOs and practitioners speak candidly about what actually works versus what just demos well. Kudos to SecurityWeek for convening a thoughtful, practitioner-driven conversation.

Instead of 'ransomware risk', say 'Criminals holding our data hostage for extortion which could lead to multiple-day outages at a cost of $X million'
As cybersecurity leaders, it's on us to bridge the gap.

Want your cyber risks taken seriously by leadership? Ditch the complex risk registers putting them to sleep.
Quantify top risks in business terms - financial exposure, downtime, fines. Partner with legal & finance. Ballpark estimates suffice.
Be clear what you need to address them. Prioritize based on business goals, not FUD.
You're enabling the business, not selling security. Tailor the message to leadership's priorities.
