  1. I'm thinking back to 2021 when I was writing my thesis in university and had to read academic research papers every day.

The authors (all Israeli) of the deep learning papers I had to read in 2021, shared this in June 2024.

  8. Pleased to receive a relatively reduced review assignment (four papers) #CVPR 2025. The assignment seems to be on point, thanks for the PCs and ACs for their efforts. #CV

  9. So apparently #CVPR (one of the top computer vision conference) thinks LLM are an acceptable tool to "perform background research" while reviewing a submission... everything is fine, I guess.

Also in their rules: "An author cannot submit more than 25 papers." What. Like, I get that a senior author may "significantly contribute" to a handful of papers at the same conf but surely not more than... 5? I can't imagine what they can contribute to 25 -- besides funding of course... #academia

  10. Hey #fediverse, I want to connect to more people here.

I am a #MachineLearning engineer who has experience with #python, #golang, #php, #JavaScript, some #rust, C & C++. I also love research and have a paper published in #CVPR. Currently, I am using #AI for improving the safety on the roads. I've worked as full-stack engineer in the past.

I find this platform and people here awesome. I've had amazing interactions and want to grow them.

  11. I don't think this creative writing is common research practice, but I definitely like it...

The paper's called "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Net: Selective Forgetting in Deep Networks", and it's from an actual IEEE journal. doi.org/10.1109/CVPR42600.2020

  12. Great news: “Because of You” claimed one of 3 top art prizes at the Conference for Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, #CVPR. It’s a video art piece, created with Avijit Ghosh, PhD, exploring parallels between the story of Henrietta Lacks with datafication and the erasure of identity in AI.

Thank you to Luba Elliott for recognizing the work — and congrats to the other winners (and creators of all 115 works!).

  16. Thanks to the SCoFT team for all the great work that got our paper into #CVPR !! 🎉🎊

Authors: Zhixuan Liu, Peter Schaldenbrand, Beverley-Claire Okogwu, Wenxuan Peng, Youngsik Yun, Andrew Hundt, Jihie Kim, Jean Oh.

    Our paper is:
SCoFT: Self-Contrastive Fine-Tuning for Equitable Image Generation

The ArXiV paper link is below with all the details, and we expect to make code available soon!

    Thanks for reading!

  17. SCoFT has been accepted at #CVPR! 🎉🎊

Remember Google Gemini’s biased medieval England generated images that were just everywhere? Ancient internet history, I know.

I've been chomping at the bit bc we've had methods for more culturally sensitive image generation under review that help to address the kinds of issues we saw with Gemini!

  18. What is the latest research in quantifying animal movement and behavior?

I wrote down a detailed overview here, based on what I saw at CVPR this year:

  19. The Verge video cites #Musk's desire, in part, in removing certain sensor hardware to cut costs and or to alleviate supply chain issues.

**However**, that argument stands in contrast to what then-Autopilot Director, Andrej #Karpathy stated in the attached #CVPR presentation: youtube.com/watch?v=eOL_rCK59Z

Andrej's argument was, essentially, that "camera-only" based computer vision yielded a "richer dataset" than when Tesla also embraced Radar sensors in their vehicles.

  20. CW: #YVR, chaos, day three

I am starting to think that Vancouver is actually a peaceful and cordial place. These #CVPR attendees are peacefully enjoying a game of table tennis

  21. This Sunday, at the #CVFAD workshop at #CVPR in Vancouver, I’ll publicly present for the first time something I’ve been working on for the past few years: “A Perceptual Theory of Perspective for Art and Photography.” I’m looking forward to getting reactions and feedback.

  22. It takes a while to make fancy #NeRF animations, so I am very happy we can now share our upcoming #CVPR paper with video and code release:
A big debate in #ContinualLearning is how to scale to many experiences. This work shows how well NeRF-based compression can scale to store robotic experiences over many consecutive deployments, much better than storing checkpoints of your model.

  23. @EricFielding @John The "which sensor do you trust?" narrative that Musk was pushing for a while was so absurd I can hardly believe it was ever real.

It was even presented at one or two #CVPR talks if I recall correctly.

  24. I saw many top #AI engineers, practitioners and researchers (which I will not name) uncritically regurgitate and even praise #Kapathy's absurd #CVPR presentations and the contents of Tesla's various "AI Day" presentations.

From #Google #DeepMind especially, but also a few in the #robotics research realm.

    Get a clue.

You have an ethical responsibility to public safety.

  30. The paper submission deadline for the CLVision workshop has been extended to March 13th.

There is still time to submit your (archival or non-archival) contribution!

  31. Very excited to share the seven #CVPR'23 papers from our lab!

Super cool topics, including 3D diffusion models, NeRFs, faces, and 3D scenes!

Will post details about each project soon - check out the projects: niessnerlab.org/publications.h

Congrats to all students & collaborators :)

  32. @CrackedWindscreen @kentindell The #MachineLearning community needs a major reckoning in many ways (i.e. privacy, bias), but one of the *major* things that is almost never discussed is systems safety as it pertains to direct, physical harm.

For example, it is absolutely absurd that #Karpathy and others at #Tesla could basically use #IEEE #CVPR as a platform for #autonowashing disguised as legitimate ML and #MachineVision work.

No wonder the media stands no chance in grasping the real issues.

  33. Great News! FGVC10 (10th Workshop on Fine-Grained Visual Categorization) was accepted to CVPR 2023 and will take place in Vancouver. Interested in fine-grained learning and its applications? Consider submitting your paper to FGVC10.

    Deadline: March 20.
